0 Subject: RIBC AA Yahoo league Discussion thread

Posted by: Khahan
- [54138190] Fri, Mar 01, 2013, 17:37

Welcome to the RIBC discussion thread. Looks like 15/16 are signed up in Yahoo and Drafttime. Sean (fat buddha) should be in this evening. We'll use this thread to post the draft order and have any discussions about the league.

Good luck to all. This is a great group of managers. I recognize all but 1 or 2 of you and know these are all guys who are active thru the whole season. So don't expect any tail off or coasting in the last month either. It should be a fight to the finish for all spots. Also I'd like to remind managers that while the 1st place team get the RIBC invite, teams 2-6 (or 8?) get an AAA invite. So there is NO reason to tail off at the end of the year. Plenty of reason to stay active.

Well this is interesting. I've been keeping a pretty close count/watch of the yahoo managers. But I sent the info to rj 5 days ago and he hasn't signed up. This means there is 1 spot but 2 managers w/ the info to log in - RJ and Fat Buddha. I just sent the info to buddha. I'm resending it rj to give him a heads up.

Whichever doesn't make it I will direct over to the espn league. Once we get the final manager settled, we can start the draft selection process.

The 17 managers are below in alphabetical order by their guru handles (not team name or drafttime name). We'll take out the extra once we know who it is, get 2 sets of numbers from guru and start out draft order selection.

Damoose
Fat Buddha
Filthy
Goatlocker
Kevin
Khahan
Matt G
MBT
Meatwads
Neise's Nose Job
Perm Dude
Poorman
Punk42AE
R J
s R
Taxman
Wiggs

That is our starting order (less fat buddha or rj) to apply guru's random numbers to.

All,
I will be unable to connect all day while at work.
Won't be an issue during the draft due to queues.
Is somebody going to be around today that I could send my slot pick too.
If not, will just check as soon as I get home.

For those that don't know me, I am on the West Coast.

I believe its becoming obvious we need a clock even for picking our draft slots. I'm proposing the same clock we will use for the draft:

1. 4 hour time window
2. clock runs from 8am EST to 1am EST.
3. If your 4 hours are up, the next person is encouraged to make their pick and move on.
4. There are no do overs. If you miss your pick, tough

Normally I'm not all about democracy in these leagues however I feel since we've given a handful of managers plenty of time w/out a check/balance system in place we should make the rest of us who are paying attention get a fair shot, too.

Please post any thoughts.

I think we need a clock, we aren't going to finish our draft if we don't get our order set soon. Latest we can really start the draft is 3/15. At this rate we may still be picking picks then. I'm not sure how you sign up for a league and disappear for 48 hours.

I was a little easy going about it during the weekend because a number of managers had emailed me before we were full saying they were out this past weekend. But here we are, a full day into the week and we have 1 pick. With plenty of communication about it.

I agree we need a clock. I guess this is more a heads up to those of us paying attention that the clock is coming and soliciting any ideas. I'm thinking we'll start the clock officially wednesday at 8am EST.

Best thing to do is send a specific que to somebody Niese. "best available" could mean different things - highest spot, closest to middle, nearest to either turn etc.

I'm really torn. I have 2 people ahead of me and I've eyeballing 3 differnt picks so I know I'll get one of them. But I'm really not sure which is the best to draft from this year.

Thought I posted it here, but posted it in our recruitment thread which is open again:

As of today there are only 15 teams in the AA league and in the drafttime. It appears poorman opted out in very bad form without any notice to anybody. This is particularly frustrating as we sent who could have been #16 and an active manager (rj) over to the espn league. We are now down to 15 and need 1 more spot filled asap.

I think at this point we just find the 16th and plug him into poorman's draft slot selection.

I agree.

Guys, I'm traveling all day tomorrow, and getting ready all day today for a conference which goes Wed-Sunday. Whenever my turn to select a draft slot comes up, just give me the highest available slot please.

I will have email and internet access to weigh in on league stuff if needed, but probably will not have immediate responses.

I'm assuming we wrap this up today or tomorrow at the latest. I'm going to set the order in drafttime and open it up right away, however we're not going to start the draft until Friday and the clock won't start until monday.

This way people have time to set their queue's and plan a little bit without any pressure at all.

Our clock will start at 8am EST on Monday March 11th.

There will be 4 hours per pick and it will run from 8 am until 1am Eastern Standard Time.

We are inputted for the draft order. Everybody PLEASE go in and assign some designated pickers and turn queues ON. Remember you can use general queues or round specific queues, but USE queues.

I'm going to leave the draft open to get in for team management but closed for making actual picks for a little while so managers have a chance with no pressure to set up queue's and start some draft strategies.

When I click on the draft - which should take me into it, I get:

And doesn't open.

Ok, sorry about that. I was testing it out and it let me in and I was able to work with my queue but maybe thats a commissioner perk.

I'll open it up with a stopped clock.

*There should be NO expectations of picks at any rate of speed. If they are made, great. If not, people should be patient. No clock until monday. If we get 1 pick or 5 rounds of picks before Monday we'll be fine. I know people are anxious, but not everybody is ready to go since we just now are getting in to be able to set up queues.

And please use them.

Khahan should we start a draft discussion thread?

See the title of this thread. ;)
I don't see the point of cluttering up the board with another thread for the ribc AA. We can have draft discussions right here as well as 'in season' discussions...unless the thread gets too long.

In a while I will start a separate thread for rationales though.

Again, no clock t his weekend. While it would certainly be nice to get this moving, some people may be trying to figure out their draft strats, work on spreadsheets or just not be ready yet.

If that is why he's not picking I'm fine with that. If he's not picking because he isn't aware...I sent an email to cover that possibility.

When I set up the draft I filled in slots for draft pauses and the clock. But apparently those settings do not carry over from set up to 'start draft' anymore.

Matt G had auto drafted 2 picks. I deleted them and set the draft pause so Kevin can make his picks.

I'll email Matt G and let him know. Shouldn't be any harm as Kevin did not see who matt picked. So if kevin picks one of them its a blind pick he would have made anyway. If he doesn't then matt g can just pic them again.

also note that kevin used 1 1/2 hours of clock time last night before it should have paused. It reset so I'm just leaving it run as it will only run off 1/2 before it would start anyway. He gets a little bonus hour today.

That Medlen pick will be the steal of the draft, IMO. Was hoping he was going to slip to me just a few picks later.

From 5.1 until now, here is the time per pick:
5.1 31 mins (from last pick in r4 before him
5.2 3 hours
5.3 <1min
5.4 2 hr
5.5 2mins
5.6 21 mins
5.7 <1min
5.8 21 mins
5.9 36 mins
5.10 3mins
5.11 <1 min
5.12 4mins
5.13 3mins
5.14 1 min
5.15 15 mins
5.16/6.1 11 mins
6.2 10 mins
6.3 1min
6.4 7 mins
6.5 4mins
6.6 1min
6.7 8mins
6.8 31 mins
6.9 1min
6.10 1hr 1 min (que set to auto pick after 1 hr)
6.11 20 mins (que set to auto pick after 20 mins)
6.12 8mins
6.13 22 mins
6.14 3 mins

We are now 1 hour into pick 6.15. Since the clock started this pick has had times of 3 hrs (rough est due to clock set up error) 2hr 36 mins, 1hr 59 mins, & 3 hrs.

We are still on pace to finish AFTER the start of the season even though we were the first ribc to start the draft. Again, this is unacceptable for a pace, especially when its 1 player hurting the pace for the other 15. Right now we have plenty of time and pace can and will adjust. But if we aren't on pace to finish before the season starts by early next week, clock time will be cut for those delaying us.

There is no reason our pace should put us at a 3 week draft due to 1 person. Especially when we were on pace at one point to finish 3/27.

Are you saying I'm a pretty cool commish, that is pretty cool work from the commish or its a pretty cool situation, commish? I prefer to think #1. :)

I'm hoping once kevin actually sees the effects of not using queues and not checking in he'll be on board, too. Really what gets me the most is his odd round picks. He makes his even picks then has 1 person to pick. He should be able to easily make his even round pick then set a 3 person que and walk away if he has to. Even if his even round picks still took 2 hours on average that would cut us down A LOT.

His time isn't up. If there's a 4 hour clock, there's a 4 hour clock. The queues are helpful, and I have a queue almost always filled up, but I don't update it after every pick, so I certainly wouldn't want someone picking from the top of my queue if I didn't have it set to available.

True, this one guy is slow, and his odd round delays are puzzling and frustrating, but we're farthest along of all the drafts. And we'll finish in time. It always picks up speed.

Kdl u have a point but the use of the 4 hours isn't there to use every time it there in case u can't make a pick for some reason. There are alot of old gurupies here that have played in a lot of leagues together and its just expected if u won't be arpund atleast try to leave a queue

I 100% agree that folks shouldn't use 4 hours for each pick. This is a pattern, now, and it'll be awful to have to wait out another 4 hours tonight after this turn.

But this is like my problem of announcing at the beginning of my class that people need to show up on time - the people in the seats don't need to be told. It's those that aren't there that need to hear the message.

Hey guys, I fell a little responsible because I recruited KSOLO my co-worker and someone I have competed in my office league for 10 years to the RIBC when AA sign ups were moving slow. I will guarantee you he'll be active and competitive all season. I see he has been slow thus far in your draft, not sure what is up with that, I know he prefers making his own pick as opposed to an autopick or a queue so he can react to how the draft shakes out and maybe he did not expect the draft to get back to him so quick today.

He's not too familiar with the Rotoguru community and the spirit of these boards and the expectations of your leaguemates and I'll see what I can do to get him more active both on the boards and the draft.

He'll redeem himself for getting off on a bad footing, please give him a chance.

If it comes back around to him w/out him making his picks, we'll stop and get picks in for him. While we need to keep the draft moving, we don't want any manager so far behind that he's out the game before the league starts. I had a quick email conversation with him earlier, he was out to dinner and did mention he likes to be able to react to the draft. Hopefully at this point he is simply more aware of the community and slow drafts. Could just be a speed bump in an otherwise smooth sailing road.

Guys, i do apologize. Didn't expect to be away so long since my last pick, and i have no excuses. I am the Lacuna's of this league, that sucks more than you know, and i will improve my perception. I only want to say that I always intend to make good quality use of my time and picks, and any time (previously) taken was of no disrespect to everyone else's time. I will be more accommodating going forward. Much respect to the quick pickers. I'm not the most active on the chat boards, but its not due to lack of interest or enthusiasm. I love this game.

I'll gladly email you the last round or two worth of picks along with a listing of the top ranked players left. I can input a pick for anybody even if Im not a dp for you.

Kevin..thank you for you post. Your respecting other manager's time speaks volumes towards backing up JeffG's post in 144.

Now..wish I knew where filthy (Rocket Richard) disappeared to or how to contact him. I've been in many drafts with him and this is highly unusual.

I emailed filthy and let him know who the players picked since his last timeup are and let him know he can email his draft choice if he'd like. I have no idea if he'll get it, but he has about 45 mins left. Unfortunately I have an appointment due here in about 10 mins and he'll probably take a good 45 mins to an hour so even if Filthy gets me his pick I may not be able to get it inputted before he times out.

Well, if its any consolation, my que was a little eclectic, but had David Freese, Chris Davis, Howie Kendrick and before you took him 2 before me, Nick Swisher.

I was really hoping Kendrick would slip a bit longer as a forgotten option after his last season.

What happened to all the managers we had on board working to complete this draft. Collectively, the attention span of this group of managers is less than a pre-schooler. Every time an absent manager returns to the fray, another gets lost in their real life.

Draftime emails are slow right now. In another draft, I just got an email telling me I was up 52 minutes after it was supposedly sent (and 50 minutes after I actually made the pick). Might be good to check into the site once in awhile instead of awaiting email notifications.

I have a general Queue set. Please give me about 30 minutes to get on and check my pick.

If I don't get on, go ahead and pick just don't double up positions in back to back picks.

IE, If my first pick is OF, please don't draft OF in the next pick...

Any questions, just email me.

Now about Mighty Meatwads who ran the clock for his second time.....? Has he communicated to/with you about this draft?? I know you are aware since you drafted after the 4 hour wait both times. Pretty crass when you choose to $hit on the commish.

He's timed out twice and the fact that it happened right before my pick is irrelevant. Traditionally when there are 2 timeouts I believe the clock gets cut to 2 hours from 4.

Althought as of right now there is no clock for his next pick has he not gotten caught up. So here is where meatwads stands:

If it gets back to him w/out him making his r20 pick, he is immediately skipped.

If it gets back to him and he has made his r20 pick he then has a 2 hour clock from here out.

Hey all,
We're coming into the final round and your last pick. As you make your pick in drafttime, please take a moment to visit the league in Yahoo and check your draft results. You can follow this link: http://baseball.fantasysports.yahoo.com/b1/71298/draftresults

or go to the league page, click on "Draft Central" and then "Draft Results"

After you do this please email me and let me know of any corrections. If everything is fine, please email me and confirm your team is properly inputted.

Thanks

My team looks correct. I'd like to apologize for letting my time run out a couple times during the draft. I didn't realize my drafting habits bothered people as much as it did. I've done several drafts at draftime and never been called out before.

Usually I'm really good at paying attention but a couple "real-life" scenarios came up during the draft and I was unable to make a quick pick. I hate letting auto-pick decide who to take.

Well, good luck this season guys. I'll see some of you in AAA next year. :)

I'll just be happy if they don't all end up on the dl like last year. I know its only 3 days into the season, but its been rough. I have relatively little repetition between rosters on my teams yet my hitting across the board has been atrocious.
A .310 obp here, a 180 BA in the DD league and 176 in a random public league I drafted in at the last minute.

Whats so odd though is that between those 3 teams batting so bad I have a huge variety of players. In fact of starters at each position, I have no duplicates on those teams. Pujols, butler, EE at 1st, kipnis, kinsler, cano at 2nd etc.

This is one heck of a battle for first place. Changing almost daily and most of the point swing coming from 1 category - wins

And meatwad and I both have to look out. We can't take cheap wins from bad era/whip pitchers as we are currently .03 apart in whip and .02 in ERA.

Filthy, at our level, only #1 gets the real podium prize- invite to RIBC. 2-7 gets invite to AAA.

But with 2-7 looking at AAA invites next year it looks like there are quite a few in the running. I'd have to say Me, Mighty, Smith & 9th, sR and you are definitely in. The last 2 slots (1 of those 6 will be in ribc) is a toss up between Matt G, Vampirez, Buccos, Taxman, Rotissiere Chicken, Wiggs and even Crackbabies has an outside chance.

One thing that strikes me about this league this year is that there are SOOO many categories with volatile points. Runs has a few clumps of people who can flop points. SB has a few clumps of people. Wins especially has 7 people within 8 wins of each other!! K's has been pretty volatile as has ERA/Whip.

There's so many people in the top 1/2 of the standings who can gain or lose in so many categories, no lead is truly safe.

I didn't know and still don't really know what to expect out of AA, but it's been super fun. I feel like I'll need a whole lot of magic to keep rising at all, let alone climb to 120 and a dream of podium. Along the lines, my Yahoo profile started hoarding podium finishes, and I try to play in tough leagues, so I always try to aim for at least podium, so that not winning a league like this has some sort of consolation. Moving up to AAA will be good enough though, assuming I'm not the one who chokes down the stretch....

Deep down, I still think I can win this, but that same feeling thinks the Jays can still sneak into a playoff spot with an epic stretch drive! (Magic number down to about 5 :( ?)

Checking out the standings gave me a double take when I saw vampirez and buccos innings so far. I really think the middle standings are gonna see a big shake up soon. Top 6 seems safe. I thought 2-8 moved up, so thanks for the tip, it may come in handy to know if I do choke. Taxman is my pick for the 7 spot. I really hope you 3 at the top do some crazy stuff in the battle for 1 so I can sneak a podium spot out of this league though!

yeah, i saw buccos. He was most likely to snatch a point from me in K's, but seeing as he is probably running out of innings before this time next week, its only temporary.

And I seem to be safe from Vampirez catching me in K's too. But his W total is up there, though a solid week after he runs out this weekend, and his win total is within reach for an extra point.

Believe me, it's not just you that's having horrible luck getting wins in September. I've had several pitchers in position for wins, only to watch their usually reliable bullpens give up leads in the 9th inning. In fact, Josh Hamilton just hit a 2-run homer with 1 out in the 9th off Grant Balfour to cost me (A.J. Griffin) a win today. But that's how wins are. It is an extremely flawed stat that any respectable league no longer considers a viable stat.

Smith & 9th and Khahan also quite a season, really pulled away. Nice job guys. SR with a huge final day outdoes a nice final day by my squad to get 4th. I'm glad to get 5th, AA turns out to be just as tough as the bigs. 16 team, 25 player league with a 4 player bench always a tough one. Good luck next year all. Nice job to the other AAA callups.
