PSFL & OIFL Leagues [combined thread]
Welcome back to Season 12 of the PSFL (AL-only), and season 6 of the OIFL (NL-only).
Defending Champs are –
AL-only ~ Meatwads
NL-only ~ Tosh
All ten managers from last season have returned again, and since they are the same in both leagues, we’ll do the draft order selection the same way as 2014. That selection will be for the AL-only. We will then reverse the selection for the NL draft.
So, if you take the #1 slot for AL, you get the #10 slot for NL. #7 slot in AL gets the #4 slot in NL. And so on.
The draft will again be held at www.draftime.com. You should all be pre-registered. Go log in and check it out.
I’m going to get the draft order selection out soon, we can pick those, then get started whenever you want.
Ksoze gets back from vacation on the 14th. Greggo Romans leave on vacation on the 19th. We can’t get the draft run in 5 days, but those might turn out to be delays unless they just set a super-queue.
I'm looking forward to this season.

I took the current team names as they appeared on my Yahoo page. I used the Random Integer Set Generator three times, and re-sorted each time.

I talked with greggoromans and he said he wouldn't be able to make his selection until sometime around 7 pm ET/4 pm PT. The people selecting behind don't have to check all day only to be disappointed and potentially disgusted.

ksoze - I'm not sure if you're aware, but the drafts have started and you're up in both leagues. Just want to let you know in case you didn't know and you come here to read a new post. You were up in one league when you posted the last comment, so I'm thinking maybe you don't know. Hope this helps!

My apologies for the hold up, I wasn't aware we'd begun. I've updated my email with draftime so this won't happen again and I'll be able to stay caught up while on vacation. Might have a period of the day from mornings through mid-afternoon where I'm not able to pick (through Saturday) but if it's anywhere close to me I'll be setting up auto picks. Sorry again...

I really like the way we're doing draft slot selection. Once one league gets one round ahead it's very convenient. When you're up, it's in both leagues.

Re: 21 & 25 -- It's funny that once we got off synch with Russelldl, we never re-synched our drafts.
Thanks to everyone to completing both drafts in a very timely matter. For at least the third year in a row, we were able to complete the draft without ever needing to turn on a clock. Both drafts averaged about 1.25 hours per pick, including nighttime.
The AL-only draft has been entered into Yahoo. Please check your team for accuracy.
I will activate the AL-season season on Thursday. All players will be on waivers, and the waiver order will be the reverse of round 1.
Just 13 days until baseball starts!!

Wow, the AL playoff match between Dave R and myself is down to the wire. 4-4 with the night game to go (I win the tie breaker). For the most part the categories are decided except for OBP, I'm up .318 to .317, SB, we're tied at one, and wins, we're tied at 3. Realistically the only likely factors are as follows:
pitchers - Dave has Miller for the Yankees, 2 wins on the season thus far.
Hitters - Dave has Arod, on the bench in an NL park, I have Ellsbury, starting in CF vs. Matt Harvey, who hasn't been stellar in his last couple of outings.
Barring the unexpected, it'll come down to OBP or SB's. I've decided to sit Ellsbury; he's been cold, doesn't run much this year and, in the last week and a half, has only had two games that would raise my OBP today. If Arod gets a chance to pinch hit, our shot to move on might all come down to that one at bat.

NL-only-Tosh, a now back to back winner who claimed to know nothing about the NL 6 years ago when I added this league.
Al-only-SANFORDORS, the 6th seed who last won this league in it's inaugural season in 2004.

Congratulations to Tosh and SANFORDORS for their hard fought championships this season!
Before I completely move my attention to hoops, I have a couple ideas I wanted to throw out to the managers of these leagues.
1. Has anyone considered making these keeper leagues? I'm sure the idea has been thought of, but I'm wondering what the rational is for deciding against it. I would recommend a small amount of keepers, like 3 or 5. Maybe even a 3 year window to keep players so it doesn't turn into someone having Mike Trout or Bryce Harper forever. Also, we could say you have to keep 3 hitters and 2 pitchers or something like that. There could be several other ideas discussed within this format as well.
2. I'd be interested in making the championship round 2 weeks long at the expense of a regular season matchup. We have an imbalanced schedule anyway, so that shouldn't be a big deal. In the last week of the season there is just too many players that have been valuable all year that can't be counted on for various reasons. (ex: Teams resting regulars for the playoffs, pitchers getting shut down). I think making the matchup longer would ensure the best team wins more often.
3. I'm assuming we have 6 playoff teams to keep managers engaged throughout the season, but a keeper league would give every team incentive to play for something. It would also encourage more trading in this league, which seems to be lacking consistently. If the keeper league idea wouldn't work for everyone, what about lowering the number of playoff teams to 4 and playing two 2 week matchups? No offense to SANFORDORS who played great in the playoffs but it's my personal belief that a team 12 games under .500 in the regular season shouldn't have a chance to win the league.
I've been in these leagues for a few years now but I'm certainly not a founding member. Just thought I'd throw a few random ideas out there and see if anyone is open to change. Maybe everyone decided to keep things simple with these leagues because they are in plenty of other more complicated leagues, so just forget I said anything if nobody wants to readjust anything.
I had fun this year and look forward to next season!

1. There are two main reasons that this has not been a keeper league to date. One ... is that we all have several other keeper leagues, and a fresh start each season gives everyone an equal opportunity to win! And two ... we try to get these drafts started before all the other leagues (RIBC, G20, etc), so that it gives us a good opportunity to see how other managers evaluate talent.
2. I like the idea of a 2-week final matchup for the reasons you mention. We just play standard Yahoo league formatting, so I would need to investigate if such a change is possible in the free league. I know that the *Plus* league does allow for changes, but I've been unwilling to pay-to-play thus far.
3. Again, the 6-team playoff is a standard Yahoo set-up. I would have to investigate if a change is possible. I do however, think it's pretty cool that a team can get hot in the final few weeks, and take the title in the H2H format.
I always hope to have fun, active, and competitive leagues, and will easily go with whatever the league as a whole wants to do.

I also greatly enjoyed being in both leagues the past few years, but I haven't been able to commit the time needed to field a competitive team lately and I think it would be more fair to step aside and let someone else in. Hey, I communicated with MJD and, with his consent, decided to stay on and play this year. Hope this isn't a problem for anyone? Last year was a bit of a transition period for me at work, which isn't an excuse, but part of why I was less active than in years past. I'll be active throughout the year this year and going forward.
Oh and I was unable to delete post 49.
