I'm not sure if the Draftime invite was sent out, but I didn't get that if it did.

I'm really excited to be back!

Draft wise, it will be roughly the same time the RIBC will draft. When we get the last two to sign in on ESPN, we can start with the order selection.

FYI, I will be travelling to China 3/5 to 3/12. I should have internet access(behind the Great Firewall), but it would be beneficial to me if the draft started after I got back.

I'd suggest we start the draft pick selection process now so Roboguru might be able to make his selection before he leaves. There is no requirement that everyone be registered at ESPN.

Agree with SZ

However I tried to reach Mike Vivian as I assume that is who Mike V is. Wolfer, maybe you could drop him a line if you have a good address.

Greetings, RIBC AA 2016
I'm the 'new guy' in the league - I've been playing the weekly golf and football games and Guru Dave was kind enough to hook me up with your baseball league - a couple of questions, please - is the draft and player pre-ranking/queueing entirely at DrafTime ? is the actual league play and statistical tracking entirely at ESPN ? any info would be much appreciated - I'll check this forum thread and my gmail email (george8kl)
Thanx, gk

Welcome, George. Yes, the draft and pre-ranking is all at Draft Time. I think you will find it a great site. And, yes, the league is run on ESPN.

I have a question that I will throw out to the group. When Mike V tries to join on ESPN,he gets a
"Invite does not exist in LeagueMember" message. Does anyone know what that is and how to get around it?

I sign in as him this morning and got the same message.

George, for this segment of the draft you just post where you want to pick. For the next part we'll be on Draftime (the info is on the ESPN page) and you can set it up to let you know when to alert you, and it'll be like most other draft sites you use.

We can start the draft, but there is one small problem. Two people have not signed up for drafttime. If you have not signed up, please email me so I can resend the invite to you directly.

For those who are interested, the RIBC is starting their draft on Monday. As soon as the last two are in, I will open drafttime up for people to make queues and to possible make picks.

My China trip may be extended to the 14th. I hate to be the reason for holding up the draft. Obviously, I have a pretty good idea who I plan to draft at #3, so I can set an autopick. The biggest challenge will be being 13 hours ahead of the US East coast, meaning the overnight draft pause will be while I'm awake and no pause while I'm sleeping.

wolfer..??

You can't tell who has not signed up at Draftime??

There are 16 of us, assuming its not you, only 15 to account for. It would be infinitely easier for you to figure out who is not in. In the alternative, post the names of those who are in and the rest of the league can figure it out for you.

IMHO...Asking in this thread for who is not in is not going to generate much traction with the delinquent managers.

LOL at Taxman post 57 when he was one of the delinquents!

So.....once all 16 are in:

- Maybe RoboGuru can queue up his top 3 for round 1
- Maybe we start things up and don't start the clock until March 15th for his return?

# 62 The reason I posted in # 57 and stepping up to bar in # 60(the truth is the truth). Like you I am in multiple drafts at Draftime. Simpler to email the delinquents (me in this case) than to ask the delinquents to figure it out they are delinquent. I seemed to have made my point by not knowing I was amiss. Not embarrassed to be a delinquent..glad to know about it and fix it.

MikeV the other delinquent claims he is now registered so can we proceed with Species request in # 62

That 1st and 2nd round went fantastic. When I picked 12th, I wanted:

1 - One of the top 4 third basemen
and
2 - One of the top 7 first basemen

thought it would be Bryant......but stoked with Manny and Encarnacion!

How would uneven trades work? Each team needs to draft 25 players.

my first RIBC season, first Draftime slow draft - interesting stuff, good to have plenty of time to mull over choices and strategy - the middle part of the draft is make or break time - all the superstars are gone, projected overachieving outfielders and pitchers will be the key from here on - the only drawback to such an early start is the unexpected injury reports of top picks (Rizzo, Cespedes, Chapman, etc) - good luck and good drafting to all AA managers!

in lieu of rationales, I will offer kudos to all my fellow managers at AA - this is my first ever RIBC (what does RIBC stand for ?) experience and can see that I'm the proverbial minnow swimming amongst bigger fish - rather than my accustomed 10 team leagues with either the rapid-fire sink or swim draft or auto draft with pre-loaded custom queue, the Draftime 16 team slow draft is a first for me - most of my strategy and planning seems to go for naught, as I've had a half dozen logical next picks pre-opted by others - after grabbing a few top talents in the opening rounds, I concentrated on filling all positions with the best available players - I failed to join the RP stampede and paid the price - in the last few rounds, I'll look for multi-eligible infielders and prospect/phenoms (Gallo?), but then who won't?
This league is quite the revelation, a post-graduate level fantasy baseball curriculum which I hope to audit and learn from; I'm looking forward to the daily roster massaging as well as the typical adding, dropping and trading to upgrade my poorly drafted team - a 10th place finish is the goal, if not the realistic expectation

george - this might come as a surprise to some who have played in leagues with me, but it is my first ever roto redraft league, ever.

I am not used to the top 150 actually being at my disposal...I know more about players 150-300 than I do 1-150!

As an example, I literally know nothing about Carlos Gomez (my pick at 3.10) other than his historical stats...but could tell you every little intricacy about Jonathan Schoop, Kevin Gausman, Carlos Rodon, etc.

George, RIBC stands for RotoGuru Invitational Baseball Challenge. I love this format, it is by far my favorite. I bet you will lose patience with your standard league with inferior talent after just this one year. You will find that this group is active all year. Welcome, I think you'll have fun.

May the gods smile upon me in the future and let me have endless drafts with these same managers every season and sport.

BEST EVER slow Draft even-though I have had some good draft experiences in Football 101 and some Poli leagues in yesteryear.

This group pays attention, is ready to draft when turn comes up and is unfortunately able to read my queues to often. Although I complain loudly of Seattle Zen's mind reading prowess, I am complimented that he is drafting the players I targeted. SZ is one of several old Gurupies (Nerf, Species, Dilligad, PD, RoboGuru, PunK, Wolfer, slizz) that make this league special because of past leagues and depth/breadth of competitiveness.

Game on!

I like the cooling off period idea. To all newcomers although this is a AA league, and the lowest of our competitions I think this is the best AA league I have ever been in and wouldn't be surprised if some of our AA participants couldn't win or place in the money in the AAA leagues if not the RIBC championship league. Congrats to all who drafted quickly- would like to point out that the pause time was again set for east coast only and that I was on a multiweek gang murder jury w/o internet access as an explanation for my delays which were generally just the first day. Good luck to everyone.

#146...a plan? Not sure about that. The plans changed multiple times throughout the draft. If there was a plan, it was to take what the draft gave me. I'm an RIBC veteran who took the last 2 years off, partly because of the grind of these slow drafts. This one definitely went much better than I remember.

#152...Your comment kind of illustrates the parts of RIBC that I love and hate. Of course many of the owners in this league could have success at the RIBC level. All levels are full of very good owners. The structure of the league just makes it very hard to advance to the top level and displace owners that have gotten very comfortable at the top. With 3 "feeder" leagues you have 48 teams fighting to fit into 7-8 openings in the RIBC each year.

With a ten save lead, I think it is time to trade a closer. I would be interested in a starting pitcher of equal quality.

Me too .. because save guys control 1 category and Starters impact 4 hard to say what an equal trade is in that scenario and harder yet with coming mid season musical chairs for closers while a good SP is remains a good SP

I see Jose Reyes hitting 30 dingers in the second half, ;) Well, that's what he would have to do to make my stupid pick pan out. I think he'll sign with the Mets and perform decently.

Trades are not a big thing in RIBC leagues for some reason. That being said, I did make one last week. A much needed backup 1B/MI in Solarte for Herrera, who while now a closer, was not something I really needed as much. Besides that I turned around and got AZ's new closer right when they traded Clippard.

This looks to be a race right down to the wire. I have been toggling between 2nd and 1st almost every other day for the last 10 days or so.

Sid Finch, you have room on your roster for Andrew Toles, Stephen Cardullo (?!), Franklin Guti, and Luis Perdomo but not Starling Marte?

I'm glad Robo Guru got him and not Jaku or Delmarva.

Zen, Marte will hardly be a deal maker or deal breaker for anyone anytime soon during the waning weeks of this season - the Pirates are as done as Marte's aching back - SBs are Marte's major contribution and I'm confident he won't be running much until April :o)
As for the no-name additions, now is the time to see what they can do - they're possibly hot streaky for a few weeks, while the 'big name stars' I've dropped were definitely cold streaky and not of much use to the eager beaver mgrs. who snapped them up - I get fresh blood, they get what they get - battling for 12th place is not as nerve wracking as battling for the league trophy, but we do what we can :o) :o)

For some reason, Monday seemed to be the day I lost the crown. I went from leading/tied on Sunday to down by 5 on Monday, the lead has only expanded since. I've tried everything I could to get points - A possible closer here, a SB guy there, a high K reliever over here - but for every stat I gain, I lose one or two somewhere else and stay right where Ive been for the last month or two.

Zen - it's been interesting - 16 team league, daily lineup changes - draft well or go hungry with slim pickings on the waiver wire - lots of nuances I hadn't even thought of (i.e. benching extra pitchers to avoid bad results and excess innings - I caught on to this little gem at the end of August - live and learn :o) ) - one thing I miss is the CBS style team totals reports for the previous 7, 14, 21 and 28 days (invaluable for monitoring progress vs. rest of the league) - unless I totally overlooked them, there are so such reports whatsoever to be found anywhere on ESPN fantasy baseball.
All in all, a good experience & I think I'll be back for more next season.
Best of luck to you and your competitors rest of season - george

George, if you click on the "more" drop down menu on your team page, you'll see "active stats" and that page shows what each player has done for your team. If you click on "weekly totals " on that page, that gives you a team weekly report. Not exactly the CBS report, but damn close.

I'm hoping that the cut-n-paste job on Nerf's post would allow me to lift the jinx just like it did for him. Damn, it had been so nip and tuck until now, you've done a great job with your end of the year management, Nerf.

It's all going to come down to three things for me, and they are completely out of my control. I need OBP and SLG to come out on top amongst the 5 numbers all bunched up, and I need 4 more wins. (4 saves would be awesome too, but I'm not counting on that). It pretty much just comes down to the players and some luck. I don't really need my pitching to be good as long as they don't melt down. I just need them to win. Have I mentioned how much I hate result stats?

Thank you, Real George. The best part of this whole thing is I get to skip AAA next year and vault all the way back into the RIBC big league.

OMG, what a day! Holy crap, what a week! What a great season! I remember back to starting my first roto league with friends in college, worried that the Spring Training lockout was going to ruin the 1990 season. In all the leagues I have played since, this is the most gratifying win.

Sometime in early Sept. I decided to start streaming pitchers in order to catch up to the 1350 IP limit. I was having ridiculously poor luck getting wins and since my ERA/WHIP were solid, all I wanted was a great K/IP. I think it was five days before the 28th that I decided would be the day I would stack nine starters. In years past, I found the last weekend was not ideal because many starters would leave their games early for one reason or another - playoffs, the season doesn't matter anymore. But the drawback with choosing Weds., was I didn't get anymore help from my closers. Monday comes and I am now nine points out of first. I have been within five of first since June or something. I really thought I was sunk. But then I thought this might be that special year when my nine starters put together this line: 50.2IP, 41 K, 1.92/1.18 and FIVE wins.

When I had to make cuts for that Weds., I had to say goodbye to my boy, Hisashi Iwakuma. We sat down and discussed all we have gone through, remembered how I have drafted him in RIBC each of the five seasons he has played in the US. I explained how I couldn't wait until his last start, to win this war, I needed pitchers for Weds. He reminded me of the Divine Wind that protected Japan twice when they faced overwhelming odds against the Mongols. This wind roared across the Sea of Japan and destroyed the fleet of the superior Mongolian forces. The name of that wind is Kamikaze. Hisashi became the Kamikaze when Jakku picked him up for Saturday's start. I bow in gratitude, Iwakumasan.

Last night Taxman was going into the evening just 2/3rds of an inning short of the limit. He had Tanner Roark starting and was only 6 strike outs away from my total. I looked at his team page after Roark was out and I saw that Tanner had 4 strikeouts and Mark Melancon, still pitching, had one. He has Roberto Osuna as well. Toronto wins 4-3, I see, and I figure I lost a point in strikeouts. Somehow, Melancon and Osuna pitch three innings and don't strike out anyone! The Divine Wind.

I knew going into today's games that I needed to hit some home runs and knock in some RBI and I could gain three points. I knew Jakku was going to pick up some points in pitching, my half point lead was not going to be enough. I stay away from the computer/phone/IPad while at the gym, but put the MLB network on. I don't see any highlights of my boys hitting bombs. I look at my squad at 1:30, after 35 at bats, I have one RBI, that of Byron Buxton legging out an in-the-park homer. Slugging percentage was around .300. I look at Jakku, three of his starters are not going to win, but three others have leads. I figure I'm fu**ed. But, wait, the Divine Wind fills my sails, carries balls from my dreadlocked brother Hanley Ramirez and Matt Carpenter over the fences. Go from one RBI to eight. I get those three points! Take the kid and dog for a long walk. think of the other times I finished second place in competitive leagues, at least seven I can remember.

Come home, open the Stat Tracker, and WHOSH, the Kamikaze blew away all of Jakku's leads, he finishes with no wins today and I can't believe my good fortune. I will write more about my season in another post, but I must now thank Jason Doolittle for a thrilling finish and everyone for making this a great league. Did anyone else notice that we had the most chatter of any of the leagues. Hell, the last post in the RIBC thread was August.

And my name is Charlie, George, for reasons to mundane to explain here.

Zen:

Congrats on your "9" inch Nail .. and on your return to the bigs.

Last two days of season were the only I was in 3rd place. In the final month of season, I picked up 5 points in RBIs, another 4 in Slug and 3 each in Ks and Ws .. to off set 4 point drop in steals. My final pitching points led the league (70) which had kept me slotted for promotion to AAA.

I did everything I could to try to win. That Wednesday from Zen was too much to overcome in the end. I had 16 starts the final week, and got 2 wins. I needed 4.. 4! From 16 starts. And that would have put us in a tie, which I think would have been more than a fitting end. Sadly no. This was my year of bitter almost-couldve-beens. It looks like Hanley Ramirez was the villain both times. Two weeks ago I lost a semifinal of my 30-team league on the last game of the week, when Hanley hit 2 HR's to put my opponent ahead.

All I can say is grats to Zen. I *really* wanted that skip to the bigs, but we both played our hands brilliantly and I came up just short.

I am probably never going to draft an offense like that ever again. Correa, Betts, Sano, Beltre, Zobrist, Beltran, Fowler were my core guys, buoyed by Eduardo Nunez, Danny Valencia, Adam Duvall, Tyler Naquin, and Willson Contreras. Those were my boys.

The pitching side was pretty bleh besides the closers, my best pitcher being the last I drafted - JA Happ.

The only move I regret was trading Herrera for Solarte, because he proceeded to take over the closers role and got 10 saves, while Solarte was okay, but soon after Valencia got 1B elig and Solarte was out for most of September so I had to drop him. I think I would have rather had the 10 saves. It probably would have won the league. But hindsight is 20/20 and at the time I didnt think Herrera was going to get many saves, if any, I was already at 14 in saves at that time and the 2 points didnt matter that much, and I desperately needed a 1B.
