Subject: 8 Men Out Keeper League 2018 Season 5
Posted by: Khahan
- [2911322610] Thu, Jan 25, 2018, 13:33
Welcome back everybody to year 5 of the 8 Men Out Keeper league. Its still early so not much going yet. As a reminder, below is our league constitution:
Positions for 24 round draft:
C, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, SS, RF, CF, LF, MI, CI Util SP, SP, RP, Px4 Bench x 6 DL x2 NAx1
Categories: Runs, Rbi's, HR, SB, BA W, Saves+Holds, K's, ERA, Whip
14 points for 1st place in a given category down to 1 point for 14th place. The winner will be the team with the most overall points after the last day of the regular season ends. If there are any make up games scheduled after the last day, those games will count if hosting site rules allow
Season limits: 1350 IP 162 games played per roster slot for hitters
Keeper Rules Managers may keep 0-9 players. Players kept count against the draft round they were chosen in. Draft rounds follow traded players but can be changed to any earlier round in the first draft following the trade. Declaration of the new round is required at the time of keeper declaration. In-season pick ups have no draft slot so they cannot be kept. If you do not have multiple picks in a given round, you cannot keep multiple players tied to that round.
Example 1: I draft Ted Williams in round 1. Later in the season I make a trade which brings in Mickey Mantle who was also drafted in round 1. I may keep either Williams or Mantle, but not both.
Example 2: I draft Ryan Sandberg in round 5. Via trade I also acquire Andre Dawson who was drafted in round 5. And via a second trade, I acquire a 2nd 5th round pick. I may now keep both Sandberg and Dawson. (however note - the next season if I do not obtain a second R5 pick I will only be able to keep 1 of the players
Example 3: I draft Ryan Sandberg in round 5 of the 2014 draft. During the season I trade my 2015 round 5 pick. I may no longer keep Sandberg unless I acquire a round 5 pick before keepers are declared.
Example 4: I draft Sandberg in round 5 in 2014. I trade away my round 5 pick in 2015 but acquire Dawson who was also a 2014 round 5 pick. I may not keep either. Dawson's draft round came with him, and come keeper time I dont have a round 5 pick. I may not keep Sandberg any longer as there is no draft slot to put him in. I may declare Dawson as a keeper in any round of 1-4 as long as I have a keeper slot available.
Keepers are due 18 days before the first game of the regular season.
Manager Expectations Managers are expected to play a full season. Giving up part way, ignoring trade offers, your team or the league can result in your removal from the league.
Trades Trades must be balanced against a maximum of 24 players on a given team and 24 rounds of draft for each manager. Outside of that, trades may be vetoed at the commissioner's discretion if he feels there has been collusion or cheating of some kind behind the trade. Otherwise, trades will be assumed to be acceptable and pass after 24 hours unless there is an objection. If an objection is raised there will be a league-wide vote. If more than 50% of managers not involved in the trade vote against the trade, it will be vetoed. Otherwise, it will pass 48 hours after initially being accepted by all managers involved.
If you receive a keeper eligible player via trade, you may move that player's keeper round up during the keeper declarations after you received him. All other keeper rules still apply. Example - in 2014 Khahan drafted Billy Hamilton in round 6. During the 2015 I trade him to another manager. In the 2016 keeper declaration Billy Hamilton may be declared as a keeper in any round 1-6 provided the manager has a draft slot free. For all future years that Hamilton remains a keeper that chosen round is now considered his keeper round.
Draft In 2014 the draft will be a randomly ordered 24 round snake draft. Following years the draft will not snake. The order will be determined by how you placed the prior year. Teams finishing in 11-14 place will be in a lottery for the first 4 draft slots. All other teams will be reverse order of finish.
The draft will commence 2 days after keeper declaration and (for now) will be held at Drafttime.com with the league hosting site at Yahoo.
The lottery draft will be held shortly after the end of the regular season (to better facilitate offseason trading).
Draft Guidelines We will have a slow draft as noted at draftime.com Each draft slot will have a 4 hour window to make your pick. If you do not make a pick in the allotted time the next manager may go. You can make up your pick whenever you get back but forfeit the right to any players picked after you missed time. If the draft comes back to you before you make a missed pick, those future picks will be allotted 0 time until you are caught up. The clock will be shut off from 1am to 7am EST M-F and will not run on weekends - subject to change if we must meet a deadline. Shohei Ohtani As of 2018 yahoo has announced that Shohei Ohtani will have a player slot as a pitcher and a hitter. We will be treating these players as 2 distinct players. For intents and purposes there is a player named Shohei Ohtani who is a pitcher and a second player named Shohei Ohtani with hitting eligibility.
If we change hosting sites to a site that uses a single Shohei Ohtani or Yahoo updates to a single Shohei in future years we will handle the combining as follows: 1. If No manager has either Shohei he is drafted like any other player 2. If 1 manager has 1 Shohei and the other is not on a roster, that manager can name Shohei as a keeper 3. If 1 manager has both Shohei's he can choose either players round to make the new single Shohei a keeper 4. If 2 different managers each have different halves of Shohei, they can each submit a blind bid to keep the new singularity-Shohei. The manager who submits the earliest round gets Shohei. If there is a tie the manager will the earliest draft pick keeps him. He will be kept in the round of the submitted bid. Example I have Pitcher Shohei in r8 and Bean has hitter Shoehei in round 11 and he becomes 1 player next year, we both submit a blind bid. If I submit my bid as round 3 and Bean submits round 4, I keep Shohei as a R3 keeper.
A full, active league is extremely important to a fun time for all. A few managers seemed to give up on their teams and did not even check in on their team the final month. I will be keeping an eye on these teams and if at any point I feel a lack of interest is becoming the norm I will find a replacement manager. Please, a league like this is comprised of 13 other people who are all here to compete. If you truly do not feel you can stay focused for a full season bow out. If you have shit come up and fantasy baseball simply isn't your focus and you opt out on your own, I'll gladly give you first crack down the road to return when your situation changes. But if it gets to the point that I remove you - you're done. So please, give consideration not just to your schedule but to everybody else's schedule as well.
*****The bolded and underlined parts are changes to our rules from the prior year. I just want to put a special reminder for this year's rules change: We are now a saves+holds league as opposed to a pure saves league. |

Any dates for big events...keeper designation, start of draft etc?

Opening Day is March 28th. That means keepers are due 18 days before opening day or March 10th and the draft starts 2 days later which is March 12th.
Keepers should be posted in this thread with player name, position (remember cf, lf, rf) and keeper round by 11:59pm EST on Saturday march 10th. Any keeper list not posted by this date will not be accepted and it will be assumed all players are being thrown back into the player pool. No exceptions. Look ahead at your schedule and if you see a potential conflict email me sooner rather than later.

I'll be getting a league-wide email out once Yahoo gets off their lazy butts and opens the season. They are not starting the season until Feb 15th this year. May be time to consider looking for another hosting site if their quality of product keeps dropping.

part of moving forward with my dumpster fire of a team is the decision that i simply need to make changes.
one of the biggest is that i'm looking to move Xander Bogaerts (he's a third rounder), for a quality keeper at a lower round, or perhaps as part of a multi-player deal.

Everybody please dont forget to double check your rosters when discussing trades. Please check the draft from 2017 over at draftime as well as checking add/drops from 2017 at Yahoo both with offers you get and offers you make. A trade agreed upon is a done deal. Commish will not hold your hand and walk back a trade involving a player who is not keeper eligible.

WG - players are all keeper eligible but your rounds are off for a few. Bellinger should be round 14 Bryan should be round 16 Colome should be round 20 Barreto should be 22 Gray should be 23
This is actually good news for you Amit.
Next order of business - I never did the lottery order for those who finished 11-14 last year. I'll roll 2 sets of numbers, rearrange the managers accordingly and after the second set is applied, that will be our draft order. So the starting order is: Power of Lemke C1's Stocking Feat Super Twins Big Bushy Beer'd
Roll 1 from random.org is 1 (power of lemke) 2 (C1's stocking feat) 4 (Super Twins) 3 (big bushy beer'd) giving us a new list order of:
Power of Lemke C1's Stocking Feat Big Bushy Beer'd Super Twins
Roll number 2 from random.org is 3 (power of lemke) 1 (C1's stocking Feat) 4 (big Bushy Beer'd) 2 (Super Twins)
Giving us 11-14 as: C1's stocking feat Super Twins Power of Lemke Big Bushy Beer'd
This means our draft order is:
C1 Stocking Feat Super Twins Power Of Lemke Big Bushy Beer'd Taxman Khahan Bryant's Blue Eyes Niagara Meridians Fear the Monkey WG Foot's Soldiers Beans Mudhens VampireWeekend Thumpers
I see no current trades that would affect draft picks for 2018.
Couple of reminders for people since so many of us have multiple leagues: 1. keepers named must not have been on the WW or FA last season. Must have been drafted and not dropped.
2. As of 2018 we are not Saves + Holds
3. In order to be keeper eligible a player must have 50AB or 20 IP in their career. (this was voted on with near unanimous approval after 2016 and just didn't make it into the constitution, but its still a rule we follow).

I started out with the order you guys finished, top to bottom. Then I applied the numbers rolled to your position. The numbers rolled aren't points. They are position. So you started in the 1 spot, moved to the first spot with a 1 then moved to the 3rd spot with a 3.

As to this e-mail I assume we all received from Khahan:
Hey all,
We are down 2 managers this year. In the past there's been no problem finding replacement but I've had a 'managers needed' post up for a week now and haven't gotten a single nibble. While we shouldn't have to take action yet I think we need to start considering options if we can't fill these spots. Do we a) fold the league or b) contract the league or c) stay at 14 with 2 phantom teams during the season hoping somebody will pick one up.
Again, I'm not saying we need to take action. But its getting to the point where its probably worth having the discussion of what to do so we are prepared for when keepers are due in a few short weeks.
I prefer B if we cant find two more. Can always expand again with an expansion draft next year if we get more. AND it doesn't have to be an even number of teams, we aren't H2H.

Wiggs, your keepers in post 19 are all eligible, but your rounds are off, as well. I would recommend everybody double check their keeper rounds at draftime on the actual draft. When I input them into Yahoo, yahoo tries to make everything fit into a nice even 1 for 1 draft where trading picks doesn't happen, even though I can enter in traded picks. This means if you picked up a second round 10 pick, yahoo will show that 2nd pick as round 11 since it was your 11th pick (conversely if you trade away your round 9 pick, your round 10 pick will show on yahoo as round 9). Its a little screwy and something I hope they change for this year. But Wiggs adjusted rounds will look like this: 1 Gary Sanchez 3 Freddy Freeman 12 Gleyber Torres 13 Raul Iglesias 15 Noah Syndergaard 16 Byron Buxton 18 Lucas Giolito 19 Corey Seager 23 Alex Reyes

Was doing some draft prep. Crack babies is Toral's old team? Only team who hasn't provided some kind of keeper post?

Hey all. I'm getting our keepers entered into Yahoo throughout today and tomorrow. Please keep an eye on the draft results page and let me know about any errors that pop up.

In Draftime you show Betts as a round 2...he is a round 3 keeper .. please give my 2nd round pick back

Donny - Betts is out of your R2 slot. You or I will just havce to add him when we get to round 3 manually in draftime.

I should have pick # 2.05 and # 3.05 Neither pick is showing on Draftime

On my screen your round 2 pick shows as locked but as a missed pick. I believe when we get there you'll get to put a new pick in. If not, we'll just do it manually and add it to Yahoo. Round 3 not showing doesn't matter since Betts slots in there.
I can only do what the site allows me to do and it doesn't let me alter certain things once the draft is started.

I see what you did with round 3 and Betts
Your plan for round 2 will work as long as you are not on auto pick thus I will have time to send you my Pick 2-05 before draft continues w/o me. Thanks for helping to make the draft right.

We'll just have to keep a close on the draft in a few picks. R3 will come up fast (and I have a keeper in that slot so it wont be my pick).
If we have to I can stop the draft and manually take your pick. We'll figure it out for certain when we get there.
I do wish KKB would code it so the draft admin could change things like keeper slots after the draft has started.

Ok, we're official now in Yahoo. McCutchen is Taxman's round 2 pick and Betts is his R3 pick. Now that I know who is going where i've emailed KKB to see if he can fix it.

Crap, this is going to come up again. It looks like anybody I inputted wrong or any picks that were changed after I entered and went back and corrected is now locked out. Even players I corrected before starting the draft. That means we have a few picks that are already locked out. Here is the list:
Taxman pick 2.05/3.05 baseball bugs pick 7.07 mailedfoot pick 14.11

Part homer pick but I think Alfaro gonna be a star. My kids and I have seen him in Reading and Lehigh and in Philly where he turned a routine pop fly that fell between three Mets into a double. LOL.

I am taking Fernando tatis Jr with this pick. He is not listed on draftime but is in yahoo

Official rule is he has to be in draftime to be drafted wiggs. I literally just found out we can manually add players and drafted him. However, I didn't see t his first and wont do that to you on a technicality. Tatis is yours. I'll make a different pick.

All fixed. Future as long as the player is also in yahoo, if you want to draft a player not listed in draftime simply click 'add player' and manually fill him in. Easy fix. :)

Hey folks Hotmail has decided to make changes to their inbox and those changes are not compatible with security protocols on my work computer. Basically I can see the intro to a message but nothing else. Can't open, forward, reply etc. So if I'm suddenly slow in responding to messages its because I really only have time at home in the evenings and can't do it anymore from work. If we're in the middle of trade talks, bear with me.

And I pick up Matt Duffy to cover my MI injuries and he. . . gets hurt later that day. Only day to day that puts: xander boegarts, robinson cano, dansby swanson, daniel murphy and now matt duffy as my MI guys who have gotten hurt.
No I dont want to trade for your middle infielder. He'll just get beaned in the head and miss 2 months.
