Subject: 2018 Political Baseball League - Season 16
Posted by: Bean
- [304422310] Fri, Mar 30, 2018, 12:39
The Poli Baseball League Constitution
Yahoo Baseball 7 keepers; No more than 3 prospect keepers Next Day Transactions - Daily/Tomorrow Waivers - Continual Rolling List - 1 day waiver period Trade Deadline - Closest Sunday to August 31st Trade Review - League Votes Supplemental draft picks may be traded
Scoring Settings Roster Positions: C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, OF, OF, OF, Util, Util SP, SP, RP, RP, P, P, P, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, DL, DL, DL Max IP - 1400 Batters Categories: Runs (R), Home Runs (HR), Runs Batted In (RBI), Stolen Bases (SB), Batting Average (AVG) Pitchers Categories: Wins (W), Saves (SV), Strikeouts (K), Earned Run Average (ERA), (Walks + Hits)/ Innings Pitched (WHIP)
MLB Supplemental Draft Draft Utility - Draftime Player must be in the Yahoo database at the time he is picked in the supplemental draft. No time limit initially, unless deemed necessary Straight Draft, Reverse order of standings
Prospect Draft & Rules Straight Draft, Reverse order of standings To be conducted BEFORE the Supplemental Draft Under 300 AB's or 125 IP to be draft eligible You can retain up to 3 prospect eligible players from one season to next There are 5 rounds in the prospect draft - minus a pick for each prospect you carry over. Any player at any level (as long as they are under limits) can be drafted as prospect. College, International, Little League etc.
Prospects may be called up in-season and can be sent back and forth to prospect list until the end of the season in which they exceeded the stated prospect limits. As with our new rule, managers can keep prospects for the entire season in which they exceed their stated prospect level limits. So if your prospect hits the limit in May, you may still hold his rights as a prospect until the end of that current season. Prospects may be called up or sent down anytime in-season or off-season prior to keeper declaration. If called up and made an MLB keeper, prospects will lose their prospect status.
Prospect rights may be traded. Prospect picks may be traded as long as receiving team has enough spots to make the draft pick at time of draft. You can trade for as many prospects as you like - however you'll need to have 3 or less at the time of the Prospect Draft
Approved rule changes for 2019 Season: 1) Change pitcher category Wins to Quality Starts 2) Change batter category Batting Average to On Base Percentage 3) Change prospects from 3 keepers/5 total to 5 keepers/8 total

Bean - Can you please remove Rafael Devers from Fightin' Amish? (He is my prospect). I noticed when I went to pick him up that he had been added yesterday morning and is currently sitting in his utility spot on today's roster. Thanks for your help.
I know people make mistakes, but everyone please make a conscience effort to pay attention to the players who have a keeper symbol [K] on Yahoo. It's not fair to the managers who have to miss upwards of 4-5 days of stats waiting for their player to clear waivers. I take it as a compliment that you guys like my prospects enough to roster them, but it throws a monkey-wrench into my daily lineup strategy every time it occurs.

We voted for 8 prospects next year, 5 of which may be kept. So, for next year, if you have more than 5, you will keep the extras on your regular roster or drop them.

So Monty claims on Yahoo I can't go over 5. But I thought it was a free for all in-season, and you just had to sort it out by the time you need to declare. As many promotions demotions and trades as you want, but with an eye towards only 3, now 5, prospects declared next spring.

My original question was just whether we were going to start the new rule when we declare (3 keepers or 5) or when we start the draft.
Intuitely I would have thought 3m but everyone seems to think 5.

You guys trying to make me work? Shit I am not supposed to have to do anything during the season but brow beat someone who dint see the "K".
We can vote on these if someone feels it's necessary, but right now, its just hypothetical. I prefer to go with 5 keepers at the start of next season, and a free for all during the season.
Monty do you have an example for how we handled max number of prospects in the past that would support your claim that it isn't just a free for all during the season as Bili says? Just cite the thread and comment number. Its not spelled out in the constitution.
Is there some reason to think that we wouldn't be able to keep 5 prospects before the draft next season? Or is this just a re-negotiation attempt?

Nope. Prefer 5.
It just seems like it would have fallen under the "draft 5, keep 3" rubric. Draft 5, keep 5 is certainly fine with me.

It is keep five, draft three (or more).

Bili you are talking in season. You draft 5 and during the season you keep those 5 until next spring. That's what I was talking about. I am getting a bit confused at the moment.
Then we voted that next year we pick 8 and before the next spring draft keep 5.
Bean I'm not concerned enough about it to try and dig up old threads.
Maybe its is good to let a team trade for prospects and build a catalogue as a way to rebuild.
I was just stating what I thought had been the rules but I wouldn't swear to it and I wouldn't care either way. I am all for finding ways for teams to rebuild to make things more competitive for them. I wouldn't be opposed to new rules that facilitated that, example, you can only have a player 3 or 4 years, and then he goes back into the pot.

I guess I need to know whether I can have more than 5 prospects in-season. I thought yes, but nerve doesn't seem to think so.
I had thought, for ease of accounting, we had said it's a free-for-all, with prospects going up and down, changing status, trading. Whatever. You just had to declare your max 3 (now 5) in the spring.

Barring objection the only time you need to be at 5 or below prospects is before the prospect draft, so essentially when you declare your prospect keepers each season. There are no restrictions otherwise so feel free to trade for as many prospects as you like. Just be prepared to whittle them down to five next season before the draft.

Thanks I missed that. Dropped him, he never played.
It was the way i picked him up (using availability vs using players tab) that caused me to miss his keeper status. I generally pay attention to the K when going to Players tab, cause there are a bunch of those guys always at the top. I'll try to be more attentive in the future when getting players that way.

I've removed Newcomb from Art's team. He has been on art's roster since 15 JUL. I do not believe that Newcomb's starts will significantly affect the outcome of the league, though he did do pretty well for art. Therefore, I dont plan to do anything about it with regards to accumulated stats at this time.
At season's end, I am willing to remove stats from Art's totals and recalculate rotisserie points manually, only if someone believes it would have resulted in a different champion. I am not going to go through this effort for no good reason.

<43> Agreed, but is it really that big a deal? You would also have to consider the affect of the pitcher he would have used instead of Newcomb and its affect on the standings. This opens a can of worms that I simply don't want to address. If someone wants to make this their crusade, have at it.

Congrats Meatwads and Nerveclinic! Great season and hell of a finish, and you both truly earned and deserved the win. Unhappy I couldn't pull it out but still happy I was able to finish strong and it was definitely exciting being in such a tight race til the very end. You both managed great all year and I think you each had a more solid, balanced team than I did as evidenced by the fact that you both finished with at least 8 points in each category, while I had less than 9 in 4 categories. Easy to look back now and say I should have traded strength (pitching) for weakness (hitting) earlier, but also wasn't helped by the fact that all my keeper hitters (Altuve, Bryant, Judge, Correa, Sanchez) hit the DL for substantial amounts of time (and all 5 were on the DL at the same time at the end of July!). Certainly no excuses though; you guys had the better teams. Congrats again to both of you!

Thanks WG! You were leading the pack most of the season, so I just tried to stay within striking distance. I didn't know all your keepers were on the DL at one point! That's actually pretty ridiculous.
A pretty epic race overall looking back at it. Nerveclinic coming back from the brink to tie on the last day against the guy who was in 2nd most of the year, with the original leader dropping to 3rd. It was a three team battle most of the season, and any of us could've won. It was fun battling with you guys again. Looking forward to next year with the new categories and expanded prospect draft. It'll be a lot of fun. Peace

Please sound off here with your plan for Political Baseball League 2019. We'll need to start a little earlier than usual due to some early season games in Japan (20 MAR?).

yea, i think so.
presuming i didn't dream it and we actually switched to some random form of measurement instead of wins that's way more difficult to research, something that was hot in about 2015 and now most people realize is silly, especially because it weakens relievers and late-season call ups even more.
if i did imagine we're going to QS, i'm still in, but if this league is actually going through it, let me know if a team opens up down the road when y'all realize it's a disaster and go back to wins.

All good PD, glad to have you back. Sorry for your loss.
One of my prospective owners was a previous owner of your team for two years. Joe played as Black Death in 2014-15.
I've asked the three guys to put together a brief summary of their experience for you guys to look over and comment on (you can send me your thoughts privately if you like). I told them we would award them Tree's team by Monday, so this is pretty short fused.
I play with all three in Nerfherder's TPKL-10. So, Nerveclinic and artofmonk know them (Joe, Phil and Joe Beeler). I dont think they play in any other rotoguru born leagues. In any case, I have no issue with any of them.

Have played fantasy baseball since 1993, largely in one league but also TPKL experience (2 years, rebuilding an inherited team) plus 2 prior years in the MBS league 2. 1 championship in long-running league but only one bottom half finish in that league in the last 8 years and only about 6 total 3. Have radically overhauled TPKL team into potential contender in 2019 or 2020 4. Very active trader and in free agency 5. Promptly responsive to emails and trade inquiries 6. Fair trader who does not look to screw over the other team 7. Ready for another challenge in this particular league As a P.S., I have 6 2nd place and 2 3rd place finishes in my long-term fantasy baseball league.
Bean's comment: Joe volunteered to take over a weak team here when I was pressed to find a replacement owner. He has always been dependable and gives his team the attention it deserves.
PHIL I have been playing fantasy baseball for a long time and big time competitor. Honestly, never played in Roto Gurers. I have played in Head to Head leagues, point style leagues, and others. I would bring another experience player to the league. I really enjoy playing fantasy baseball.
Bean's comment: Phil is perhaps the most active trader I have ever seen. No really.
SO, I have until Monday to award the team to give us all ample time to get ready for this sesason. If you have a preference between these two more than capable managers, you can send me an e-mail. You can just send me your "vote" or give me your thoughts if you care. If I don't hear from you, I will assume your indifference. My e-mail is provided with the usual Blue link, or beancline@comcast.net

If this is the same Phil all I can say is, if we bring him in, look out everybody, this guy is a f*cking beast. He came into our contract keeper league and won two years in a row. And he is like a magician, I've never seen anything like it, no idea how he does it. I would love to see him join. Oh and you have never met anyone in fantasy as active as this guy when it comes to trading. I think it would be a real shot in the arm to the league...

I’m fine with bringing either manager into the league. I will say, the idea of the most active trader Bean has ever seen does sound intriguing. We could definitely use a shot in the arm on that front.
Speaking of trading, I’m looking to pair Gleyber Torres with one of my third basemen (Donaldson, Rendon, Devers) for an elite 2B or SS. Email me if that’s something you’d like to discuss. I could also potentially trade one of my aces (Sale, Snell, Severino) if it makes sense.

Meatwads: "I will say, the idea of the most active trader Bean has ever seen does sound intriguing."
Let me put it into perspective. After his first year in the league, 2 years ago, the commish put in a new rule, max 30 trades a year, specifically because of him. He hit 30 trades around half way through the season. ;)

I've notified Phil and Joe that Phil will be offered Tree's team. I told Joe he will be first in line if we have a slot next year.
Now for the schedule. Two things are driving an earlier start than previous years. First the MLB has games scheduled in Japan on 20 MAR, though most teams wont start til 29 MAR. Second, we will have eight prospects vs the previous five, making the prospect draft about twice as long.
I think we may be at risk of not finishing in time, if we don't start earlier. If we don't finish on time, you can just start the players you have on your roster at the time. I will do my best to ensure all drafted players have been given to you at the time. Most likely you will have all but a few bench warmers at the most missing.
Anyway, here is the proposed schedule:
03 MAR ALL KEEPERS DUE 04 MAR BEGIN Prospect Draft (in Rotoguru thread) 07 MAR TARGET END Prospect Draft 08 MAR TARGET BEGIN MLB Draft (Draftime) 18 MAR TARGET END MLB Draft 20 MAR Start of Season

Welcome Phil, and good luck!
I've got a few players that may be worthy of keeping:
Jose Altuve, Carlos Correa, Kris Bryant, Aaron Judge, Matt Carpenter, Eugenio Suarez, Matt Chapman Max Scherzer, Corey Kluber, Walker Buehler, Jack Flaherty, Zach Wheeler, Blake Treinen, Luis Castillo (prospect who exceeded limits off my roster, so not sure)
Will likely keep the obvious names, but open to talks and moving guys for picks, prospects, or in 2 for 1s.
Let me know if any interest, thanks.

A reminder about Otani:
From <36> of last year's Pre-season thread:
Since Otani is a prospect this year, and prospects may be called up and sent down as often as you like, I see no reason to not allow you to stream Otani the pitcher and Otani the hitter to the extent that Yahoo will allow you.
The real issue for Otani, for this league, comes next year when he is no longer a prospect. If Yahoo is still unable to give you him as one player, you'll have to roster him using two slots. I suppose we can count him as just one keeper from that point on, unless you drop one of his two instances from your roster.
If, for example, you drop the hitter but not the pitcher, you no longer have the rights to the hitter coupled with the pitcher. Even if you subsequently reacquire the hitter, he will be considered a separate player for the purposes of keepers and roster slots.
Only complexity I can forsee is that if you dropped the hitter, someone else picks him up, then Yahoo changes so hitter and pitcher are now coupled. Who has the rights? Simple solution, who ever had their player the longest gets rights to both. That should cover any trade scenarios.

Proposed rule: In order for a new rule or rule change to pass, we need half the league (not half the voters) to vote yes. The manager who proposes the rule should make a reasonable effort to publicize that there is a vote going on.
This is more of a no-brainer, and how we had always played until last year. But apparently it needs to be reiterated and formalized.
I'll post on Yahoo.

Thanks Phil. And welcome! You are walking into a pretty good squad. Hopefully they both stay healthy and see which of us got the better of the other. It's hard to figure sometimes with youngsters who have little or no time in the bigs.
I'm a Dodger fan who was simply amazed at Behler's poise down the stretch and in the playoffs. Something Kershaw never really has had. I'm reading he's over-hyped, but we will see.
Tree and I often had similar styles of players we liked, which sometimes made trading hard. Had the same pieces, but will take a look.

<95> The rule as interpreted is if they were drafted as a prospect and that they were never released or promoted to regular keeper since being drafted, then they can remain a prospect until they exceed the thresholds (<300AB, <125IP).
I think that wording covers all scenarios even if it's a lengthy description.
Was your question answered?

<96> Just to be clear, It's WG's Regular draft 4th round, or is it his prospect 4th pick?
If it's regular (and is the 2019 pick not some later year), I assume WG gets your last pick to fill out his roster.
