Do we have an idea as to when the draft will start? We have those games on the 21st/22nd to consider.

Nerf:
We aren't counting those. Or, to be more specific, draft dates will be set as though those games don't count.
Quote from Guru's e-mail to me: "Special note on the early games. There are two regular season games in Japan on March 20-21. The rest of the regular season doesn’t start until March 28. I do not expect to include the two early games in the RIBC, as I do not expect that our draft will be completed before then. You will probably want to take the same stance."
Indeed I will take the same stance. So our draft will start around the same time as RIBC does, within a day or two.

To be more specific, if you look at RIBC's draft start last year, Opening Day last year, and Opening Day this year...and guess a start for our draft on the weekend of March 9-10, with the clock not likely starting until Monday, March 11, that will likely not be far off.

Sorry on delay entering, invites went to junk filter. Manually checked junk now that I have a spare evening. Joined yahoo and draftime now.
Ready to draft any moment. Once we can enter our queues in draftime, I can juggle my rotating schedule around the draft easily.

Notes on the Draft:
Guru has stated that the RIBC draft will start on the weekend of March 9-10.
Our draft will start on Sunday, March 10, sometime before Noon ET.
The 4-hour clock will start running sometime after two conditions have been met: 1) it is now Monday. March 11, or later; 2) the first round has been completed.
There will be a clock on weekends. I am open to a 6-hour clock on weekends if there is any great demand for it.
The default clock pause is midnight ET - 8 A.M. I am open to relaxing this by one hour in either or both directions, if there is any strong demand for it.

Draft rationales are not mandatory in AAA, but are highly encouraged.
Around the start of round 7, a thread called something like"AAA-Yahoo Rationales Rounds 1-5" will be created. Later threads will cover rounds 6-10, 11-15, etc.
The recommended form for such rationales can be seen in post 2 here. You can do it differently if you choose.

Guru's point system to discourage late drafters will be applied, with two caveats.
This is the system, cut-and-pasted from the RIBC thread:
Here is the framework (same as last year): We establish a point system. If you timeout (i.e., you don’t make your pick before your allotted time expires), you accumulate 2 points. If you exceed three hours of clock time but don’t timeout (the clock will initially be set at 4 hours), you accumulate 1 point. Points will only be assigned after the first round. If you accumulate 2 points in total (either one timeout or two close calls), your clock time is reduced to 3 hours per pick for the remainder of the draft. That means your next timeout would be at 3 hours. If you accumulate 4 points in total, your clock is shortened to two hours. At 6 points, your clock is shortened to one hour. That’s the ultimate limit. For any RIBC league using this approach, the commissioner will need to monitor this, and will have the discretion to waive or defer penalties if they believe the draft is moving OK and the time delays haven’t been too aggravating (or if the offending drafter has a good story - e.g., significant time zone difference, pre-announced conflict, etc .) Commissioners will also need to enforce the shorter clocks, since the system won’t be able to handle different time limits for each manager.
I will be adopting these provisions with 2 caveats:
1. The "Toral Mulligan" charges you with zero points the first time you pick in over 3 hours and less than 4.
2. Although point totals will be calculated continually, penalties will not be assessed until we fall behind our draft pace target, which I will calculate on Monday.

We are off to a slow start. We are behind every other RIBC league, including AA, which started 6 hours after us.
Read post 39, if you haven't already. Our draft-pick quota is 28 picks per day, 1.75 rounds per day. (The counting starts with today, Monday. That is, Sunday's picks are treated for this purpose as if they were made today). Starting with the morning of the first day we fall behind this pace, any Guru draft-laggard penalties will be applied for the rest of the draft.

I have empowered Khahan, a veteran commissioner, as co-commissioner. He offered to help keep the draft picks updated in Yahoo. (As you probably know, players can be added to teams on a continuous basis during a Yahoo! draft, and are removed from the player pool so you don't see them, and can see Yahoo's list of best players available. ESPN doesn't work that way.)
Khahan can also take over from me if I am away for an extended time, or need to be removed from office.

I have never seen a manager spend their first 17 picks (and counting?) on offensive players. That a second manager has also avoided SP doesn't surprise me (I drafted with Graydog last year and he did the same thing) but the two things combined have made hitting choices go faster and pitching choices go later. That has also skewed my targets for stats for the season. Theoretically, those two managers should have higher totals on offensive for the rest of us to try and beat, having concentrated so much draft capital on them.

I see that now. I was in my own little drafting bubble and then took a look at the draft grid. I'm not sure what the strategy is there? Hoping to trade offense for pitching later? It's easier just to draft the pitchers. I mean, he can't possibly play all those players - there's only 12 spots.

Are we skipping maspero's 2nd clock? We could wrap this draft up tonight or tomorrow if we keep it moving.

I have to go somewhere. If Jacob Nix is picked from my queue, he is a placeholder for a player whose name will be revealed later.

Some notes as we approach the end of the draft:
1. I had intended to set a longer waiver period (than the usual one day) for immediately after the draft, so managers could have plenty of time to check their rosters. However, Yahoo! says that Waiver Rules are one of the things that *can't* be changed post- draft. (I will *try* to change them anyway, but have to expect that this won't work.)
2. It would be a good idea, therefore, if you checked your teams *before* I finally submit draft results. You can do this from the menu at Draft > Draft Results. Right now, I'm inclined to allow a whole day for that, if the first waiver period is going to have to be (only) one day.

81- I just encountered this in the dirty dozen. You will be able to change rules but not until after the first waiver period clears. It can be a bit of a pain in the rear.

I see you had a problem in Dirty Dozen with editing waiver priority. I had planned to do that as soon as I submitted the final draft results -- not allowed to do it now. (Ours is the reverse of draft-slot selection order, not order of picking.) Do you think this will be impossible to do? If so, we'll have to go through one waiver period where nobody can pick, like in Dirty Dozen.

I have no clue. I did it in 8 Men Out with absolutely no problems. Looking at the tab "manage other teams" it says we'll be able to edit waiver priority 'post draft only.' This is different than how the dirty dozen is listed so I suspect once we finish the draft and 'start season' we'll be able to set waiver priority.

While we're waiting for the draft to end -- can I express an opinion?
In rationales -- not ours particularly, but generally -- I hate it when someone says "I was surprised to see X here at this slot." To me, that's just a passive-aggressive way of saying that your fellow managers are stupid.
Find some other way of praising your selection.

Well, they all had the choice between ESPN and Yahoo and chose Yahoo, so it's already implied. :)

Based on what I've seen of ESPN so far this year, I think Yahoo is the better choice now.

The draft has been completed and the draft results entered.
Check to see that your team is accurate via the menu at Draft > Draft Results.
Once any errors have been corrected, I will officially start the league, after which there will be a waiver period of unknown length. Yahoo! being on the Left Coast, I will probably set my alarm clock and start it around 3 A.M. ET Saturday morning.
Thank you all for a very efficient and good draft.

Apparently, you cannot drop a player who has already played today. I can't recall this happening before in RIBC leagues. The silly thing is it let me drop Drury since he didn't specifically play, even though his team's game was also already completed.

Khahan's experience might be useful here. Is this the way Yahoo! has always worked? I know that there has been a *similar* problem in Yahoo! leagues with same-day transactions before, but I don't know the exact details.

I shall adjust. Last year's Yahoo AAA was next day, so this just caught me off guard. Silly on Yahoo's part that being on the bench is treated differently than seeing the field. The game was played in either case. All players from games played should just be locked. Thanks for the clarification.

And back to 1st! It's funny my entire offense is being driven by 3 players, but I have alot of good players starting off very slowly. Jose Ramirez is literally my worst offensive player at this point.

I didn't think I could have a day like yesterday, pitching wise: 29 IP, 29 ER, 54 baserunners. Dropped from 3.58 ERA to 4.02 and WHIP 1.23 to 1.29... in one day... in late May. Wow.

An update since the day I lost this league back on 5/28. The pitching went from bad to ugly since. My pitching since, Including that day:
Bullpen - 5.81 ERA and 1.29 WHIP Starters - 6.78 ERA and 1.35 WHIP Overall - 6.56 ERA and 1.34 WHIP
That's in 167 IP with 154 K , 7 W, and 12 Saves.
I was sitting at 3.58, 1.24, and now at 4.46, 1.30. It's nearly unfathomable for a pitching staff to turn like that so quickly.
My relief guys have been general fails in every league. I'm thinking the era of getting rate stats out of middle relievers is over.

The Yahoo fantasy app tried to play me for a fool today. I benched Happ for his start against the Astros. This afternoon, the app gave me an alert "warning" me that my lineup has "issues." No thanks Yahoo, Happ stayed on my bench.

I continue to struggle in this format. From 3rd to 15th in a third of a season. Since 2011 when I won AAA I've basically been on the AA/AAA teeter-totter. Top 3 in AA (but no win), then 15th in AAA, then back again.
Pitching was the thing that got me this time. Essentially losing Severino the day I drafted him was the biggest blow, but mostly it was the timing - Every pitcher I owned went to sh** simultaneously in late May/ early June. If it'd happened right away I might have had a chance to right the ship, but it literally went from good to ridiculously bad in the span of 3 weeks. There's just no recovering from that.
The sad part is I drafted hitting extremely well. Ramirez/Bryant/Bellinger is about as good of a first 3 picks as one could hope for. Dejong, Alonso, Chirinos and Renfroe were excellent post round 10 picks. It wasn't enough to make up for my disastrous pitching staff.

Congratulations to Jason's Team (121 pts) on the victory. Graydog (115 pts) took the silver, and Rotten Amoebas (maspero) with 114.5 pts took the bronze.
If 4 move up to RIBC, as I believe they do, Uptown Bombers (Kevin) (103.5) was 4th.
Not much to say about my season, except that I was even worse in the first half and the general direction of the second half was up. At a snail's pace, but up.
Thanx to all for a good season.

I tried with everything I had to get a higher placing but just couldn't do it. I very briefly got into 12th but couldn't stay there.
The only moral victory was re-aquiring Severino and getting his 3 puny starts. Also, finishing ahead of Orange and his weird draft.
Something has to give though. Maybe I try Graydog's strategy next year. It seemed to work well for him.
Grats to the other Jason! Winning AAA in 2011 was my greatest accomplishment in fantasy baseball. It's a really tough league!

I can only offer congratulations.
I was in it until the All Star break but something happened at that point. I wish I could put my finger on exactly what it was, but I can't. I wandered too close to the edge, slipped, and started a slide I couldn't recover from.
