PSFL & OIFL Leagues [combined thread]
Welcome back to Season 17 of the PSFL (AL-only), and season 11 of the OIFL (NL-only).
The 2020 AL-only and NL-only leagues have been activated.
We're down 2 managers this year and we decided to go with 8 teams this year. They'll be more free agent players available. Should make things easier and more fun.
Welcome back and Game on!
I assume the rest are returning. PLEASE CONFIRM YOUR PARTICIPATION FOR THIS SEASON! |

BTW, just a thought. Should we consider adding another IL slot since we'll have a larger free agent pool?

I’m in!
It’s appealing to allow more stashing since we’ll have more options, but not doing so will also make the wire more attractive and could encourage more activity and use of waiver priority. I could go either way.

I’m fine adding another DL spot if the league wants that. I’m also curious, since we’re going down to 8 teams this season, shouldn’t we adjust how many teams make the playoffs? I would think 4 is the right number. Either that or everyone makes the playoffs. Thoughts?

I think the DL slots should stay the same. Keeping it with deeper FA options.
I also like keeping the playoffs at 6. I like the 2 best teams getting a bye week.

Keeping DL at 3. I believe Yahoo will let us set up our customized playoff schedule later.
We’ll do the draft order selection the same way as we have in recent years. That selection will be for the AL-only. We will then reverse the selection for the NL draft.
So, if you take the #1 slot for AL, you get the #8 slot for NL. #7 slot in AL gets the #2 slot in NL. And so on.
Thanks to Tosh for this.

Drafts are open. No clock, plenty of time. This shouldn't take long.
PLEASE NOTE In Yahoo AL-only, Shohei Ohtani is listed as 2 different players, a batter and a pitcher. In draftime I'm attempting to remove him as 1 player [[P, DH]]. Now listed as all 3, so don't draft him as one player.

Well with ST suspended and the season on hold for at least 2 weeks our options are to proceed with our drafts or wait. I consulted with Tosh and we both agree that we should start, but also see what the rest of the league would prefer. We're on hold for now. Please chime in.

Just a brainstorm... Since it appears we’re all going to have all kinds of no sports time on our hands, how about we spread this out by starting one draft now, same clock/longer clock/no clock/whatever, and hold the next off until the first finishes or life appears it’ll return to normal, whichever comes first?

First off ... THANKS to mjd for setting everything up for the 2nd year in a row. Three days ago, I barely had time to breathe. Now I have nothing but time for at least two weeks.
So we are ready to fire up the drafts. We have several options.
1. Turn them back off and wait for more info 2. Do a really slow draft that counts 3. Do our regular-speed draft that counts 4. Do a draft at whatever speed that is just for fun. When we get more info (or finish), we'll just void out the results and start fresh.
4.5. We can do options 2-3-4 with just one league. Or both.
Thoughts??

If a mock draft happens, it’ll need to be without me. I’m at home with three kids (one of whom decided to break her arm yesterday) and a full time job that is dramatically more difficult nowadays.
The more I think about it the more I think we should just postpone until there’s some clarity. But, that’s from someone who is trying to figure out how to squeeze a draft in rather than someone looking for something to do.

With the earliest start date for MLB now being mid-to-late May as a best-case scenario ... I have decided on holding off on starting the drafts. We all have other more important things to be thinking about right now.
We'll reconvene in a couple weeks, and see how things are hashing out.
Stay healthy out there!

So ... I'm sure we've all received the email from yahoo about the season changes.
Head-to-Head League Schedules Head-to-Head leagues will default to a 9 week season - 7 week regular season and 2 weeks of playoffs (4 playoff teams and no playoff bye weeks).
I'm thinking about doing away with the H2H format for this season. The pitching categories, especially Ws, are such a crap shoot. I know that the Mariners are starting with a 6-man rotation to start the season.
I propose switching to a season-long points league. Thoughts??
Batter Stat Categories and Point Values: Singles (1B) 2.6 Doubles (2B) 5.2 Triples (3B) 7.8 Home Runs (HR) 10.4 Runs (R) 1.9 Runs Batted In (RBI) 1.9 Bases on Balls (BB) 2.6 Stolen Bases (SB) 4.2 Hit by Pitch (HBP) 2.6
Pitcher Stat Categories and Point Values: Saves (SV) 4 Wins (W) 4 Strikeouts (K) 2 Earned Runs (ER) -2 Outs (O) 1 Bases on Balls (BB) -0.9 Hits (H) -0.9 Hit by Pitch (HBP) -0.9

I don't have a strong opinion either way. I'm skeptical they'll play a whole season, to be honest. If we do switch, I would prefer to go back to H2H next season.

So ... let's throw this season together the best we can. We'll go a points system, cumulative for the entire season. Then change back to H2H next year.
We have the draft order, and everyone is entered. So I can go ahead and enter that stuff.
Are we still a GO?? Everyone in?? Start at any time??

HERE WE GO!
Four months after we put the draft on pause ... I have started the two drafts. Let's see how this goes. If we take a little too long, we'll just start the season a couple days late.
Without a doubt, we have all had some weird experiences in the last four months. I'm pretty certain I spent a month doing nothing but watching CNN and playing Candy Crush. In the first eight weeks of the shutdown, I left my yard just seven times. In 3.5 months, I only touched one person. I've only left the island I live on four times ... all four times being Costco trips. I've never been an extrovert, but this was just ridiculous.
I spend most of my time at a pool, as either Aquatic Director for the Park District, or Head Coach of the swim team. I was able to re-open the pool on July 1, so am finally back at work. It feels good to work again. I had never thought I would miss working.
I hope everyone is healthy and in a safe place.
I don't feel like this season is going to be very successful. So let's go out there, and just have as much fun as we can as long as COVID will let us. Good luck to everyone!

We're making good time.
I just noticed ... When I changed the Yahoo settings from H2H to Points ... the default is '"no maximum" for GP or IP.
Do we want to establish maximums for this? Or just make it a free-for-all??

I’d say no maximums. It was the assumption I had going into it, not that I’d have chosen a different “approach”. It could encourage activity, which I view as a good thing.

ALSO, PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP IF THERE ARE ANY ERRORS SO THAT THEY CAN BE CORRECTED BEFORE STARTING THE LEAGUES.

Congrats to russelldl (David) for being the AL-Champ!
Congrats to Mighty Meatwads (Michael) for being the NL-Champ!
Congrats to Homestead Grays (Keith) for coming in 2nd place in BOTH!
Hopefully life is somewhat more normal next Spring, and we can resume the H2H format. Have a great Winter everyone!
