Quote of the day
"Dirk cut his hair. He's back to his MVP status." -- Dallas guard Jason Terry, after a short-haired Nowitzki scored 25 in a 2-point win over the Celtics

Daily blurb
When Terrell Owens signed with Cincinnati, it was unclear whether he or Chad Ochocinco would have the upper hand this season. So far, it’s not all that close, with Owens ahead by 15 receptions, 300 yards, and 5 TDs. Actually, that may be a bit misleading, as Owens racked up about half of that full-season advantage last night, with a comparative excess of 9 catches for 126 yards and 2 TDs. But if you drafted T.O. this season, you’re probably quite happy with the results. If you took Ochocinco, not so much.

By the way, why does Jon Gruden refuse to use the name “Ochocinco”? He consistently referred to him as “Chad Johnson” last night, while Ron Jaworski was using the newer name. The disparity seemed a bit strange at times. For example, at one time late in the game (if I recall correctly), Gruden said something like “Johnson is split wide to the right”, after which Jaws interjected (in the next moment – as though we might not know who “Johnson” was), “That’s Ochocinco at the top of your screen.”

In Football Pickoff, 60% of all active slates posted positive scores. Kudos to craftygirl with the top score of 652, missing only last night’s game. At the other extreme, the Random Dart got its comeuppance this week with the worst score of -441, getting only one correct pick - the Jets over Detroit. After running out to a very strong start through the first five weeks, the dart has now taken four lumps in a row.

By the way, the midseason competition has now started in Football Pickoff. This contest simply discards the results for the first eight weeks. If you got off to a bad start, here is a chance to reclaim some dignity.
