Quote of the day
"Sometimes you have four or five games where nothing seems to go right." -- Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra, after a 16-point home loss to the Pacers

Daily blurb
It’s not looking like the Heat will be winning 70 games this year, as some had predicted. Currently 8-6 after a home beatdown by Indiana, they aren’t even on pace to win 50. I wonder if LeBron would like a do-over? The Cavs have only lost one more than Miami so far.

After a typical slow start (2-5), the Chargers look like they’re back on track. Now 5-5, they have a tough game next week at Indy, after which Kansas City is the only team remaining on their schedule with a winning record. At this point, it looks like the two AFC wild card teams will come from the East (Patriots or Jets) and the North (Balt or Pitt), so S.D. will probably need to beat the Chiefs in that Dec. 12 matchup to control their way into the playoffs.

In the NFC, if the playoffs were seeded today, the Giants would be outside looking in. Atlanta has the top record at 8-2, followed by five teams with only three losses. The Giants have four. And, of course, in the “NFC Worst” division, Seattle has a one game lead with a record of 5-5 and a relatively tough schedule to go, facing three of those teams with three losses or less. Their final game vs. St. Louis could actually be for the division title.
