Quote of the day
"Did I expect to run for a first down? I haven't expected to run for a first down in quite a while. … It was 10 yards? Really? It felt like 50. But we needed that win." -- Minnesota QB Brett Favre, after a 17-13 win in Washington

Daily blurb
San Diego still seems to have Indy’s number, winning five of their last six meetings. In recent years, the Colts have generally coasted into the playoffs. But after back-to-back losses to the Patriots and Chargers, they sport only a 6-5 record, with a key game against Jacksonville looming in week #15. In fact, every team in that division is either 6-5 or 5-6, so it could be a wild month.

The top defense of the weekend (so far) has been San Diego, boosted by two interceptions returned for TDs (and two more that weren’t). When was the last time that the top defense was the one facing Peyton Manning? I suppose it could have been three years ago, when the Chargers picked off Manning six times – although I don’t have the team defense rankings from that week.

In the NBA, we had a triple double yesterday from Josh Smith. It was one of those “just enough” Kidd-like TD lines: 12 pts, 10 ast, 13 rebs. But still a triple double, nonetheless. And much better than the way he started the week, when he had 2 pts, 0 ast, 3 rebs against the Celtics.
