Quote of the day
"Well, I'll let you know." -- Celtics coach Doc Rivers, when asked if the team could beat Cleveland in the next round of the NBA playoffs

Daily blurb
Two Minnesota pitchers added to their impressive opening month last night. Francisco Liriano pitched 8 shutout innings in a win over Detroit, lowering both his season ERA and WHIP to under 1.00, while Jon Rauch notched his 7th save. Both are the types of guys that can really propel a roto team toward a strong season, as neither was likely a high draft pick. For example, in the RIBC and related qualifying leagues, Liriano was a consensus 14th round pick. Rauch went as high as the 11th round in one draft, but was also taken in the 14th round on average. Of course, one good month does not a season make – but if you nabbed either of these guys in the mid-to-late rounds of your draft, you’ve got to be feeling pretty good about it so far.

The Quail Hollow Championship tees off tomorrow morning. Tiger Woods is once again in the field, and while his high price and limited schedule typically make him a problematic pickup for most GuruGolf teams, he is expected to play in back-to-back tournaments with The Players Championship up next – so one of those impediments isn’t in place this time around.

Rauch would have probably gone much earlier if it wasn't for the extent of Nathan's injury only becoming clear very late in spring training. I remember hoping, late in some drafts, that the other managers forgot about Rauch...alas--only got him on one team!

True, although the only real question was whether he would be able to pitch at all this. It was known that he would likely be out an extended time.

What was not known was whether Rauch would be anointed the closer, or be part of a closer-by-committee. In fact, on March 22 there was a report that Liriano might be in the closer mix.

I have Rauch in G20, and he's one of the main reasons for my success this season (along with a guy in a similar situation - Matt Lindstrom).

Interestingly, I had Liriano on my team last season, and he was the last guy I didn't keep. I traded away Asdrubal Cabrera and Adam Jones, and my last few keepers included Russell Martin, Jonathan Sanchez, and James Shields. Pretty happy with how those three have worked out, although it'd be pretty sweet to have Liriano. Perhaps I should have taken him over Scott Sizemore with my #5 overall pick.

FYI----

For the past 3 days the data for RotoHog baseball has been missing David Aardsma. Might be due to the fact that he is the first player alphabetically.

The same file also has consistently duplicated the records for a number of players. Many have not yet played, so it is more apparent only if all players are included in the report:

Josh Butler, Sam Deduno, Jesse English, Ernesto Frieri, Dustin Richardson, Henry Rodriguez and Esmil Rogers.

Good catch! (Unrelated to the alphabet, however.)

Should be fixed now. Thanks for the alert.
