Question for y'all. How many of you would be receptive to a PAY Nascar game next year that splits the season into thirds, and runs at 14.95 per team. The prizes would be significantly better than the ones offered this year. Feedback, please?

This is a tough one. I know that ESPN offers a free game that is pretty good. Weren't you guys involved with Dale Jarret's game, because that is the one with all the juice. You'll need to overcome their already established fan base is you do your own game, which I must say was run quite smoothly, except for the second Daytona race.

I understand your need to do market research, but you ask people who are already rabidly addicted to your product. I think you need to figure out what and if the average Joe will pay for a game. Also, I don't like this approach because it feels dirty to me. Imagine sitting in a bar and before the bartender gives you your drink, he asks you how much you'd be willing to pay for them. Up to $5? How about $12 for 3 drinks? Probably not a good analogy, but thats my 2 cents.

Mak:

That's not the intent of asking these questions. It's more like, Can we afford to build a product that will make people happy? And if so, what's the best format?

To be honest, I wouldn't pay for any fantasy game whether it is NASCAR, baseball or whatever. I'm not at the level where I would be competing for prizes so it's not a wise use of my money. I only play these games for fun with my friends. I didn't play these games before they appeared on the internet and we'll organize our own should they all go to ‘pay to play’.

As far as splitting the season into 1/3, that's a great idea. It's a long season, and with races only once a week it's easy to lose interest, especially if you're near the bottom of your division.

Sorry Dude, but this old boy ain't about to give a penny to you guys. I've played dang near all of the Smallworld games for the past 4 years and have had a lot of fun, but if I am going to pay for a fantasy game I'm going to spend my money where it is appreciated. Lately all TSN has been known for is sites that are down or slow all the time, screwed up trades, and screwed up scoring. And lets don't forget the prompt service when these problems happen. Or how about the friendly attitudes of the TSN employees...for those that wonder what I am talking about check out the football forum under the thread called "Kudos to Smallworld". I'm cool with the fact that they'll probably race at 'dega without restrictor plates before we see another free game, and I don't mind paying to play, but I'm going to find a game worth paying for.

I would do it but I think that braeking it down to 2 seasons would be better.

Honestly, I don't believe I would pay for a NASCAR game. Frankly, I find ESPN's game to be more challenging, with more drivers, a tougher pricing system, and roster locks before qualifying, which requires more skill in evaluating drivers before the race.

To make a pay game viable, it would have to offer me a lot more than what ESPN's game is offering for free. And I don't think prizes would do it for me (not speaking for anyone but myself there). Not sure what could be offered that would make me want to pay to play, assuming we want to keep this legal. :)

Probably not because I would rather spend money in football or basketball. Plus it seems as if Small World had trouble getting the correct points for drivers in Nascar. Does anyone remember Earnhardt JR winning at Daytona and then it seemed very few points were given out. I know many people tried to notify Small World about it and it seemed they didnt care. Very few if any received emails back. I think if the site ran smoothly and points were updated and whatnot then people would be more willing to pay.

I've been one of the more vocal ones complaining about the points screw-up with the Daytona race and to his credit, Erik did respond to my e-mails, but as yet there has been nothing done to resolve the scoring errors. I've given up on getting this resolved. I don't know how many people have noticed, but the points for the Atlanta race have been updated, but the world wide rankings have not. With just one more race to go they had better get on the ball if they are going to correct this. In any case, these are the kind of things that seem to be common with Smallworld/TSN and even though they say things run smoother with the pay games I am reluctant to spend my money to find out.

I wouldn't pay $14.95, but maybe less. I wouldn't want the season split into thirds either. I don't think TSN will find it worth their time to run a game for a few hundred paying customers, so I guess I'll find another NASCAR game next season.
