as I've said in other posts here, this is my first yr with fantasy NASCAR. I know there must be websites out there which will provide info on which drivers/teams plan on running there that week. Since not every driver races every week...anyone care to share some URL's for some of these 'data'sites?
Thanks in advance! |

sarge, actually most drivers do race every weekend. The ones that don't are the ones that have sponsorship problems (like Geoff Bodine and the like) and usually aren't worth picking up anyhow. My advice is to always wait until after qualifying for making your picks anyhow because those that are questionable for being at a race are also questionable for making the race, usually due to a lack of owner points to fall back on. They'll have to make it on speed alone and those with questionable sponsorship aren't usually the fastest on the track.

thanks KKB. Guess the trading here then is simply for those drivers who appear to be 'underachievers' then? While patience is not a virtue of mine, guess I'll take a 'wait and see' posture for now and hope for the best from my 6. BOL all.

sarge, patience is definitely needed. You can't trade on performance at the last track because the next track is different. The thing is to try to find the drivers that do well on particular tracks, or types of tracks, and have them for those races. Think of it like if every football team played their games on 16 different shapes of fields with 16 different lengths and widths and 16 different sets of rules. That's practically they way it is in NASCAR because every track is so different and requires such different setups and driving.

sarge, almost forgot. If you really need to get your fix for moving drivers and changing drivers every week, play the Gleem.net Pick'ems. You get to change every driver every week as many times as you like. Right up you alley. ;)

Yeah, he went to the Retirement Garage. You're showing your age though sarge, because he last raced in NASCAR in '88. ;) Here's his bio at NASCAR.com

Know what you mean about the memories Sarge. I was looking through some of my old race programs from Talladega and talk about memories. Buddy Baker in the Harry Ranier #28. Earnhardt in the blue and yellow Rod Osterlund ride. The King in a Dodge Charger. Bobby Allison in a red, white, and blue AMC! David Pearson in the Woods Brothers Mercury, etc., etc. I practically lived at the tracks during the 70's and 80's. I still enjoy Nascar, but to me it's just not the same as it used to be.

IIRC, wasnt Buddy the first NASCAR driver to break 200mph for a lap speed in NASCAR on any track?
Dad was a HUGE Chevy man, hence I rooted for Yarborough...cause he drove Chevy and that made Dad happy. lol The things we do to stay on Dad's 'good side' eh? Blew it big time when I turned 16 though. Bought a Mustang. Dad made me park it at the neighbors farm cause,' aint no gddmn Ford gonna be on MY land overnight'. *shrug* Sold it 2 weeks later. (I lived 1/2 mile from my neighbor. Too far to walk after parking or to get my car every time I wanted to go somewhere.) Wonder how Dad feels nowadays, seeing how I work at a Ford dealership?!?!?! lmao

Questions from a Rookie player. How would the following be rated in importance in trying to picking for a race? 1. Driver 2. Track 3. Pole position 4. Qualifying Times 5. Make of car 6. Other

IMO, pretty much exactly as you have them except I would say #1 and #2 would be #1a and #1b (as in "Who does well and where do they do well?") and everything else is relatively meaningless after that, IMO. #3 through #6 are not as important as most TV announcers would have you believe. ;)

From someone completely unqualified, I think KKB is right on points 1 and 2. I also think that 3 has more relevance on some tracks than on others.
Not sure which tracks this applies to, being a sophomore at this, but perhaps Bristol, and some other short tracks, Wadkins Glen, if memory serves correct has a couple less than perfect pit stalls.

Doom brings up a good point that I forgot about. Pit stalls are important. The upper 1/2 of qualifiers at Bristol are on the front stretch. The lower 1/2 is on the back stretch. For a number of reasons, it's better to be on the front stretch. Darlington and Martinsville have pits on the front and back but I can't remember if they use them or not. And there are other tracks, like Watkins Glen (everything is reversed including gas tank hole on the "passenger" side) that have weird pit stall setups. Sears Point actually has a set (like 3 or 4) of pit stalls separate from the other pits and the cars in that pit actually get held for something like 8 seconds because they don't have to drive down a pit road like the rest of the teams. Technically, they should have the same amount of pit time, but psychologically it's horrible because you think you're down and ready to go and then there's an official standing in front of your car looking at his watch for 8 seconds. 8 seconds is FOREVER in NASCAR. ;) So yes, I would agree that #3 is important in some races, but maybe change it from "Pole Position" to "Pit Stall". Pole Position is nice because you can gun it on the way out, but it's not as important as avoiding the "bad" stalls on some tracks, IMO.
