It's a bit of a pain in the ass if you aren't used to it, Tree. Basically you pick your drivers from a set of similarly skilled drivers (Good, Better, Best!), and are allowed a limited number of starts by those drivers. In other words, you can't ride Gordon all season.
So you try to pick up hot drivers (or drivers good at a particular track) while not running out of starts for anyone since you will not get their points.

well i played ESPN Nascar last year, had no clue what i was doing other than following trends, and came in third place in my division....is that a good thing?

I've read the rules but I must be missing something here. If you can change your whole team each week, then what is the purpose of the 'reserve' slots?

The reserve and active slots are normally locked in before qualifying (Not the case with Daytona 500). After qualifying, you can switch your reserve and active drivers but not who is in that list. Can be helpful if your active driver crashed in practice or had a bad qualifying run, you can make one of your reserves active.
