FYI, as of my latest readings, the following "rookies" (some aren't really rookies, but might be thought of as rookies by some people) have a full-time ride, or COULD have a full-time ride, for the entire year. - Biffle, Greg: last year's Busch Series Champ. 27.43 average finish in 7 NASCAR WC races last year.
- Bigley, Jr., Billy: COULD run full schedule (with obvious exception of Daytona 500), but won't really know until LAS and still won't know for sure. 0 NASCAR WC races.
- Fittipaldi, Christian: Could, COULD, run the full schedule, but no guarantees. 41st finish in only NASCAR WC race. Trying to make the open-wheel transition like Mears.
- Foyt, Larry: How do you spell disappointment? Foyt spells it "o-u-t-o-f-g-a-s." Running out of gas coming in for the pit stop in the 125 cost him a chance at making the Daytona 500. Foyt is supposed to run the full season, but overcoming the Daytona heartbreak could be tough to pull off. 0 NASCAR WC races. Finished 22nd and 20th in 2 seasons in the Busch Series. Probably best known for last name (A.J.'s youngest son), but also for being the car that hit Steve Park, who swerved in front of Foyt under caution, and put him out of action for quite a while.
- Fukuyama, Hideo: COULD run full schedule, but not trying to qualify for Daytona 500 could be bigger sign of 2003 plans.
- McMurray, Jamie: filled in for Sterling Marlin after Marlin's injury last year. Finished 1st at CHA and 7th at ATL and posted an 18.50 average finish in 6 NASCAR WC races.
- Mears, Casey: a rookie in the truest sense of the word. 0 NASCAR WC races. Good bloodline, but can he make the open-wheel transition? Taking over Jimmy Spencer's car should help ease the rookie pains.
- Raines, Tony: 36.14 average finish in 7 NASCAR WC races last season. The team plans to run a full schedule, but it's not money-in-the-bank.
- Sprague, Jack: 3-time Truck Series Champ was 5th in Busch last year. 34.17 average finish in 6 NASCAR WC races since 1996.
- Wallace, Kenny: far from being a rookie with a 25.29 average finish in 228 races since 1994, but he hasn't had a full-time ride in a while. 10th in last year's Busch series, Wallace recently got "famous" again for filling in for the injured Steve Park in 2001 and early 2002.

Forget 0 to 60, how about 8 to 38? "Rusty Wallace was booted 30 spots down the starting grid for the Daytona 500 and his crew chief was fined $10,000 for using an illegal carburetor in his qualifying race." "NASCAR did not dock any points from Wallace -- since the season hasn't started, he doesn't even have any. That's a break from the pattern it began last season of docking 25 points in the penalty process. "'I don't know if we want to dip into the world of starting somebody out in negative points,' Darby said."
