I know this is last minute but I think a great idea for a game would be this format. Here is how it would work.....

you must have your weekly pick in by noon of race day. The first race of the game your driver must finish in the top 25. If he does then you move on to the next week. If he fails to then you are out of the game. The second week your driver must finish in the top 24. It keeps dropping each week until only one person is left or we have a tie for the finish. You may use the same driver more than one week.

I don't think it would be fair if everyone could see your pick so what I would propose is that your pick must be emailed to me by 12 noon est of raceday. My email is linked above. In your email please make sure I know your gurupie name for standings purposes.

I know they play this game at work and people have a lot of fun with it. I will post the weekly results in the forum each week.

Let's have some fun!!

philflyboy- can you post who everyone has once the race starts today?

Btw, I would be all for making people pick someone different the following week. Instead of just picking the same guy each week we should try to change that a bit. Maybe you can only use a guy 1 week in a row?

pfb, we've already got about 4-6 and they're saying 12-24 (probably more on the 24 side by the looks of it right now) total by the time it's all over on Monday.

I've heard that storms are suppose to get to Daytona around 3pm today. I think I read that in the weekend USA-Today, so it probably is different for today. On another note, why is it that it has to be -5 here in michigan, yet we aren't getting any of this giant snowstorm. All of the weather is crazy this year.

Just to check for right now it would be unfair to add others to this until there is a winner correct? It wouldn't make much sense to keep adding people until someone wins, so thats why i'm asking.

Doesn't look too promising to get a full race in today.

My guess is that it'll hit around 2:30-ish and they'll either be racing under the lights tonight or postpone until tomorrow.

Interstingly enough, I thought I heard the announcers say that the Daytona 500 has never been postponed. Pretty amazing considering the race is over 40 years old.

Punk42AE, that would be my guess.

Yeah they said it has never been postponed, just rain shortened. I forget, is it that the race has to be 50% done to shorten it, or is it more than that?

IIRC, the race needs to be over 50% complete. So, for a 200 lap race, they need to complete lap 101 for it to be official.

Well this sux. Does anyone know what TSN does if they postpone till tomorrow? Just push it back a day? To bad Newman can't come back for the race. I knew I should have picked Johnson over Newman...

TSN only receives stats for their stats source after the race is completed. Obviously game is on hold until officially determined the race is finished.

RACE ON!

We'll see for how long... ;)

Nobody picked him, but Sterling Marlin just got black flagged for passing below the yellow line. He'll likely go a lap down.

DANGIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Junior loses his battery and has to come in and change it. 2 laps down and likely well out of a top 25 finish. Looks like 1/2 the field in Survivor just got cut. UGH!

I have mixed feelings about the rain. I lose in the survivor with Dale JR but the NASCAR pool that I paid to get in I have Michael Waltrip.

People still in
Punk42AE
Fatal Image
Jimmy
Dr Doom

looks like this could be a quick game after all

don't forget to email me your pick for next week. If you do not submit a pick then you will not have a driver for the week and you will not advance.

The rest of us just have to wait another week or two until we start a new game.

Could the rules be modified? Everyone gets one mulligan, those that have been knocked out, this is it, but for those, we have one left. I'm for it. Certainly helps those that have one 'banked'. It would not bother me if someone that uses a mulligan in week one actually wins either.

Since there are so few left I think next week the player we pick should make the top 15 or so. Make it more interesting. And on top of that I think it would be pretty cool to each week it moves up 5 spots, so like 25-20-15-10. Then the game could start over and over and see if anyone can win it a few times. But that you can't repeat a driver two weeks in a row. So everyone that was picked this week, they can't pick that player in week 2, but can again in week 3. What does everyone else think?

Mulligans in a survivor league? I don't like that personally..

Punk's ideas are interesting though. If you want to turn up the heat and make us pick top 20, then top 15, top 10 etc. so we can get to the next game quicker, that's fine.

I say go 25, 20, 15, 10, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 and then there's just co-winners.

The problem with starting a new game next week is that those that are winning would be left "out in the cold" if they lose next week or the week after. Or else we get multiple games going and everyone gets separated. I think just do one game. You lose, you wait in the pits until there's a winner. Kind of like Geoff Bodine. ;)

Definitely no mulligans. Just call it Golf NASCAR at that point. ;)

Punk42AE, the original post says "You may use the same driver more than one week." Farn brought up, "I would be all for making people pick someone different the following week...Maybe you can only use a guy 1 week in a row," but it appears to have never been accepted or approved.

Better keep wishin' for some Gibbs motors to blow up, like everybody elses. :)
