Subject: Jr.'s admission

Here's the link, I wasn't able to create the link http://www.news-record.com/sports/nascar/race_notes_032904.htm
When I saw Jr spin I knew he had done it on purpose, but that's racing. But when he admits it afterwards and then ask, "What should I have done pitted and gone 1-2 laps down?" and for NASCAR to simply say well, "the race is over on to Texas", is it any wonder that race viewership is going down. Why watch when NASCAR's annointed is allowed to do what he wants.
By the way hate Busch with a passion, but you've got to hand it to him made a "bad" decision, but made it work. |

Junior should at least get a $10k fine like Busch did when he wrecked Robby Gordon at The Winston in 2002. To not do anything simply allows any driver to do so in the future and that's dangerous for all the other cars out on the track. Junior got lucky and didn't get hit, but there was no way he could guarantee that there wouldn't be a pile-up of cars trying to get around him. Anything done intentionally by a driver to bring out the caution should be fined, IMHO. As for Busch, I also don't like him, but the guy just knows Bristol like nobody else right now. He definitely let it hang out there by not pitting, but of all the drivers out there to make that decision, I would be most comfortable with it being Busch... well, at least at Bristol.

Isn't intentionally bringing out a yellow a 1 lap penalty? (Didn't Sadler do it last year or the year before?)
Enforce the penalty at the beginning of the next race, even if it was enforced at the race that it happened at. That'll stop it.

Larry Mac, on one of those million NASCAR shows on all those "other" stations, said that he thought what Junior did was okay. He said the only time he had a problem with NASCAR handling Junior was last year at Talladega when Junior clearly went below the yellow line, yet wasn't penalized. He pointed out that Mike Helton had preached about it being "law" that you go below the yellow line and you'll be penalized. Yeah, NASCAR knows what puts the fans in the seats. The problem is that they're, once again, looking more like the WWE than a legitimate sport.

I mean, ya know, Larry Mac just, I mean, gets on my nerves. I mean, he cain't hardly get through an entire sentence without, ya know, saying "I mean" or "ya know".

I mean, I know. :) And will he ever call him Jamie McMurray instead of Jamie Mac-M-yer-rie? Probably not.

Dale Jr. docked points, fined for Bristol spin
Well, good. I still think starting him off a lap down in Texas next week would have been better.

That NASCAR did something is good. Would have liked to see them dock him the amount of points being a lap down would have gotten him.

I would have kicked him out for a race. Cept then that would hurt me since i've got money on him winning it all.

Personally, I think they hit him just about right. Hard to say where he would have finished if he had gone a lap down, so 25 points is a big enough hit that it should make everyone think twice about doing the same thing... or at least admitting to it. The $10k is pretty laughable, but it's been NASCAR's standard. Personally, I wish they would up it to a minimum of $25k on "big" fines like this.
