My favorite driver since I started watching Nascar about 7 years ago. This is a very sad day. My prayers go out to his family, it will be tough to watch racing and not be saddened at the loss.

I was never a big racing fan, but if I did happen to catch a race I always cheered for the Intimidator. I don't know what it was, but something about him made me love the guy. May the black Chevy live on forever.

My plane had just landed back in Charlotte when I heard about the wreck, and I was driving through his home town of Concord, NC, when I heard the news. I was never a big fan of his, but I always respected him, and I can tell you that just about everybody down here is just in a state of shock. My thoughts go out to his family and all of his fans.

Protecting a 1-2-3 finish at Daytona. Incredible race. Great job Michael. I’m playing Lynyrd Skynyrd. It just seems appropriate. The best, and the worst… day.

You're right, yo. Just another thing that makes this so devastating. If he wasn't so kind and selfless on this day, and decided to go all out for the win (and who could blame him?), he'd still be alive right now.

FI - You are so right. He was so busy blocking Marlin that he fell victim to one of his most famous moves.
I can't remember the number of times he's "rubbed" a rookie's back fender to knock them out of the way when they were blocking him. That's one of the reason's for his "Intimidator" nickname. He got past Stewart or Labonte last year at Rockingham IIRC. I know it was a short track.
NASCAR lost a great champion at Daytona. Here's hoping the do something about the intentional clipping that drivers do to move cars out of their way.
I'm sure Marlin didn't intend to wreck Earnhart, but he was trying to break the rear end loose of his car so he could get past him. I don't know what they can do, but something's going to have to be done. I for one don't like all the wrecks, but I do like to see the lead changes. Driver suspensions may be the only recourse.
My prayers are with his wife and kids.

NASCAR.com still has the video of the crash on its' site. I'm sure glad I can download this and watch it over and over again whenever I want.
* Please note sarcasm. *
What is NASCAR thinking by leaving this up on its own website?

Another thing that bothers me is that there are people out there that watch NASCAR just to see the wrecks. I'm not a big NASCAR fan, but when I do watch it, I do so because I respect the skill it takes to race, not because I want to see someone's car be launched into the air. The media is no better. It seems like everytime I turn on Sportscenter the only highlights they show from races are wrecks and the winner crossing the finish line. I find it atrocious that anyone can take pleasure in watching incidents where people can be seriously hurt, or even worse, as we saw Sunday. What has our society become?
Rest in Peace Intimidator
