Subject: EF File Extension?

My professor emailed me our take-home MacroEcon Mid Term in a file format with a ".ef" as the file extension.
What is this extension and what program do I open it with?
I emailed him earlier in the day and still haven't received a response so I thought I'd post it here. |

I'm not finding it. What happened when you tried to open it? If it is a mid-term, wouldn't it be some sort of written document? Using Notepad is always safe, just don't check the box to "always" use it, in case it's wrong.

I've tried everything from Word to Excel to Adobe Reader to an image viewer and nothing works.
When I try and open it I get some kind of code gibberish and then some actual text. Sometimes a program can't open it at all, in the case of an image viewer.
I tried searching using a file extension database that I found on Google and it came up with no results.

Maybe that's the assignment. If you can open it, you get an A. ;)
What is the full document name?

I would try something as simple as "save as midterm2004fall.ef" to your desktop. Then right click and re-name the file either
midterm2004fall.doc or midterm2004fall.txt
and try to re-open with MSWord or NotePad.

Mike & Rock: Thank you both for your assistance. He just emailed the whole class an .rtf file so that is much more manageable than decifering whatever his Enigma machine produced.
I guess I have my Saturday morning planned. So much for yard work. :)
