CNN article on the official release.
Anyone here have experience with this? I am not in any way, a fan of Microssoft and would swap IE for Firefox in a heartbeat, if I believed it to be stable, fully functional etc etc. |

I have been using it for 6 months without any significant problem. No pop-ups and many fewer security issues, as most nasties are written for IE.

I use Firefox, not exclusively yet, but have not encountered any real problems so far.
The tab feature is nice, but my computer at home is old (Win2K OS) and sometimes the multiple tabs take a bit to refresh when the browser has been minimized for a while.
At the office I have XP, no problems here.
I also use Mozilla Thunderbird for email.

Does anybody know how to get a new tab everytime you click a link? I don't want to right click to get it. Just a regular left click and have a new tab open.
I fell in love with that option on myIE2 and its not something I want to give up.

There is a tab extension you can download, where the number of options is a bit overwhelming. I am sure your request is one of them, farn.

Fast, fast, fast. Faster than firefox that's for sure. I hate that little delay that firefox has before the page loads.

I'm using Opera and it works fine for 99% of the web-sites. the 1% comes from some Lotus Domino servers we have at work.
Avant Browser is nothing special, it uses the same core as IE with the same loading mechanism. when I read it correct a lot of the features that Avant Browser has are now also implemented with XP Service Pack 2.
I hate that huge delay that IE/Avant has when the page loads. I also can't see in IE/Avant what is really going on when the site does not load fast enough. Using Opera I notice that the slowest servers on the net are those that deliver ads.
And the best thing about Opera: no damn sites that can set bookmarks, toolbars and all that other scrap and no security issues.

Avant browser seems alot faster than Explorer to me.
Matter of fact, I have tried them all Maxthon (formerly MYIE2), Firefox, Netscape, Slimbrowser you name it. Avant browser pages snap right up most of the time.

I've been using Firefox for about a year now (the beta came out along time ago) and I've found its the best by far. I've never had any problems as far as freezing or crashing, no pop ups, no virus's. no bookmarks get set, no banners, etc etc. It's got a lot of cool features that you can customize and the tabbed browsing is definitely a plus for doing fantasy research. The one negative I've noticed is that its a bit of a memory hog (about 38K), the strange thing is though that it doesnt matter how many tabs you have open it always stays in that 36-46 range. Not really a big unless your using an older computer.

big fan of the mozilla browser here.
i wouldn't dump IE though, as not all sites work with Mozilla.

Is it even possible to dump IE? I can't remember how that trial came out.
Anyway, I haven't opened IE in weeks. The worst that using firefox makes me do is open a link in a new browser and a few formatting issues.

What is IE? I use it at work, but it never gets opened at home.
What are ads (pop-up or banner)? Since installing and configuring Firefox Adblock, I have almost forgotten what an ad looks like!
The best thing about Firefox? ... nobody here at work knows anything about it, and if the bosses decided to get nosy and look at my internet browsing history, it would show nothing but work-related stuff. :-)

Yup ... back on Vashon. Heading to Seattle tonight for one last fantasy hoops auction ... first time I've left the island since the Mariners season ended.
I find that a number of my favorite extensions are not currently compatible with release 1.0. Hopefully soon, as I miss my gmail notifier.

I have LOVED it since installing it about a month ago. I would leave IE, somethings don't work great in firefox yet, but they are rare. Some financial sites don't authenticate me on firefox for some reason.

A truly timely thread. Just don't install it on company equipment.
Today I received a support call regarding a web browser/website issue. Turns out this guy couldn't get to one of our websites and was complaining about how it's affecting his work. Well after running a ton of tests back and forth to his pc and then trying to emulate the problem with no success on our 'gold' PC's (gold - because they contain an untampered corporate image and are used for testing purposes). Eventually we discovered that he had a couple of cute add-ons that are incompatible with a website.
Thus, if you use in-house web applications use caution when installing untested browsers or add-ons. A lot of in-house software hasn't been tested against this new software and it could interrupt daily activities. In some situations legacy applications have little or no funding for upgrades.
Basically, by installing applets, add-ons, or software that is not corporate standard you could be costing your company thousands of dollars for unneeded support.
If you have installed cute apps, and add-ons on your work PC this year, and have called a support line to cut a ticket. You might be costing yourself a holiday bonus.
Since I don't use my home PC for work. I will definately test it out :)

I could never use the gurupatron sort functions while using mozila. Does anyone know if there's something I need to do for this? I have tried resetting my ID but that doesn't do anything. Thanks for the help.

I downloaded that tabbed browsing extension but I still can't get it to work for my "links" toolbar.
It works for the address bar but it doesn't work for all the links on the current webpage either.
How can a browser that is supposed to be so good leave out such an important feature as being able to open up a new tab instead of a new window?
I won't use it because of this.

When you open alot of windows at the same time, this small thing makes a big difference.
I was using Firefox and somehow I had like 5 or 6 windows open with a few tabs open in each one. Forget it. It's too confusing.

I don't know why you would want to use 2 or 3 clicks and have to hold down 1 key and press another when you can do everything with 1 click.

The Magpie extension at the same link in biliruben 14 is really nice too. Lets you do stuff like pick a media type, then hit ctrl+shift+S to download every link to that media type on the page you're on.
Warning, don't go here to test this out like I did ... 60-some mp3 links tied up my bandwidth for a while ;) But still a very cool function.

Been using the tabbed function in Netscape since they first put it in. I hate going to IE and having to open up new windows instead of tabs. Pain in the ass.

Bizarre.
Works fine on Bill, the Devil's software, btw.
I'm a wee bit nervious about hitting that up arrow, because last time I did, I crashed it and had to completely re-install the sucker (which admittedly isn't all that much work). Anyway I'll give 'er a try.
