Can someone please tell me if there is a way to restrict access to specific websites? I am running windows xp professional with service pack 2 installed. Is there a way to set it up in windows firewall? Any free-ware out there? Thanks in advance. |

any nr of 3rd party software apps can do this. I might suggest starting with zdnet.com and checking their 'reviews' pages and then their 'downloads' section.

the internal ie browser controls though, will block ALOT of sites unintentionally. It is not a very good control mechanism.

Sarge, that is a different setting to do that. The question asked how to blocked "specific" websites. Those above instructions will not blocked any other websites except amatuerliveshow.com

Are you sure that it actually blocks the site or just restricts ActiveX controls, Cookies, Java scripts etc. ??

WiddleAvi, good question so I checked it out. Turns out the website I used in the example appears no longer to be in service. So I tried another porn site I have blocked and it appeared to block the site. Then I tried an online pharmacy locater site I have blocked and the website was accessed. No cookies blocked and apparently no cookies sent to me, but I do have this nice little icon indicated the website is a restricted site so I'm wondering what the heck was restricted. :>(
Onto the lousy "help" to learn

Ok, I deleted those previous instructions since I found different instructions to use. I tried the new way I found and successfully blocked the only site I specified. HOWEVER, this new way also required every website I entered to be approved for viewing with a required password upon 1st time viewing. No way! I'm the only user here and if my girls want to use the 'net I personally take them to their specific website since I believe they are to young to roam freeing over the net. They are not allowed to roam freely in stores or malls so same rules apply on the net. I do wonder how long I will be able to get away with these restictive rules?!!?
