Subject: Windows XP Serial Issue

I had Windows XP Media Center 2004 and got a copy of it online. I installed it, and of course Microsoft got smart and locked me out of the O/S so I can't install the crack. So I ponyed up and actually bought the Media Center 2005 Upgrade itself to get the legit Serial Number. Will that Serial number work with the software I installed the first time? Or do I need to install the new software upgrade with the new serial?
Basically, do the serials match the software somehow? Or does that not matter?
Thanks for any input.
Oh, and the error is when I attempt to push my logon logo it says my serial number is invalid, and that I must register online, so I attempt this and get failures. |

The upgrade won't work unless the underlying program has a legit number. You'll have to purchase the full monty to get the thing to work. Or try to find a serial number for the original underlying program.
Some upgrades simply won't work unless you can show the original was a legal copy (FileMaker, for example, which I just had to re-install here, has that "feature").
