I'd like to start getting into using macros in Excel and Access on a regular basis. I have plenty of spreadsheets that I've designed that I update with a new formula or an addition to a V or H Lookup table.

I'd like to go the next step and just automate the suckers.

Is there a book out there, CD tutorial or macro genius out there that can guide me into getting started on using macros?

For instance, I have a table that I use to keep track of exchange rates. I'd like to create a macro that downloads the content of a webpage (Bloomberg?), updates a generic sheet and then the main sheet is updated from that.

I use Office 2003 at home and 2000 & 97 at work.

One of the best learning tools for me was the "Record Macro" option.

In Excel, go to Tools->Macro->Record New Macro
Give it a name, and click OK.
From that point forward, every command or keystroke that you enter is "recorded" in macro code. So, simply carry out some series of commands that you would like to automate. When you have finished, click on the square to stop recording.

Then, go look at the macro to see how it was coded. (Tools->Macro->Macro->[select name]->Edit)

Once you see how things are done, you can begin to augment the code to do more.

A somewhat related upcoming Microsoft Webcast:

MSDN Webcast: If You Want Something Done Right, Then Let Microsoft Office Do It For You (Level 300)
Script writers often spend hours tweaking and polishing their code, trying to get output that looks just right. After all, script writers want to create finished reports that won't embarrass them when those reports end up on their manager's desk. Unfortunately, VBScript by itself won't let you create fancy reports. So why spend hours trying to create a graph using plain old VBScript when Microsoft Excel can create that graph for you? In this webcast, the Microsoft Scripting Guys will introduce you to the Microsoft Office object model and they’ll show you how you can harness the power of applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel to create powerful system administration scripts you never dreamed were possible.
