I have some family videos and would like to share them with family easily. I was able to make the video into a torrent but I don't have a tracker. Do I need a tracker ??

From what I've read, you have to download software to use BitTorrent, which is a peer to peer system of a different stripe.

If never used it, but it sounds like the files get sent out to all the computers in the network in little bitty bitty bits. Everyone has a bit, and you keep sending and recieving until everyone has the whole file.

You and anyone who wants t he videos will have to install the software.

Never had the need so I've never used it. I hear it's the bomb, however.

bit torrent is a great program for sharing very large files among tons of people.

but your problem is you will need a tracker to host it on. i have no idea where you culd find one that will allow you to host your files.

how big is the file widdle? here's a website that would allow you to put up your file on free space and have others download it from there. the file can be up to 1 gig in size.

the people you want to download it typically have like 4-6 days. i think the max # of times it can be downloaded is like 5. so make sure people know to grab it when you first put it up.

Just go here, put the file in the "select file to be sent" area. Put your email in the "receipent's email address". Once it officially uploads you'll see a new screen with a link to your file. You can send that link to the people you want to download it.

Let me know if you have other questions.

I have used bit torrent and am familiar with it and how it works and why works etc. I just never tried doing it for something like this to share family videos. The torrent file is fairly small, maybe 150k or so. But the file it points to on my PC is around 100MB. I think the only thing I need is a tracker but I tried searching on google and can't find a place to post private torrents.

trust me, use the site above. a file that small you'll be fine. you put the file on that site, your family downloads it very quickly.
