Subject: AOL messenger virus

Today on AOL messenger, my friend had an away message pop-up that said something like "Here are some Valentine day pictures" and it gave a link. Before she had the chance to say something, I made the very unintelligent mistake to click on the address and it put a virus on the computer. After about 5 minutes on AOL, an away message pops up saying the same thing that my friend had on hers. If I'm not logged onto AOL, about every 10 minutes, it tries to log me in.
I was just wondering if anyone has heard of this virus, and if they know how to get rid of it. I've tried everything I can think of and nothing has worked, so any help would be appreciated. |

did you try uninstalling IM? That might be a good start until you find a cure to the virus.

I know I had this problem sometime last summer, or maybe early fall. I eventually found a special program to remove it. I think it might have been AIMFix, which is available from the linked page.
If that doesn't do it, try googling "AIM virus removal" and see what else you find. I'm pretty sure that whatever I used was found that way.

I did uninstall and reinstall AIM, and that didnt fix it. I also did search so many different places, and also tried the AIMfix.

it looks like the .exe has been updated at Aimfix today. Maybe they added the Valentine's one?

I somehow got a trojan.e uploader from AIM yesterday that somehow got through my firewall and antivirus. It actually put two programs called microsoft malicious software that I terminated via my firewall and then ran housecall to find out what the virus was. It was uncleanable but when I ran a trojan cleaner it was nowhere to be found. My interner is up and running fine again, but my AIM, is still acting goofy and lost most of my contacts.
I ran this AIMfix and nothing was found.

I had problems all day, so I went to AIM's help/security central. They suggested you update your AIM. I was pretty sure I already had the latest, but I re-dled and installed it again and thus far I've FINALLY been able to keep my system up and running. Hopefully this solved it. (I didn't even click on any link or picture in AIM).

I'm not sure if this is related to the aol virus or not. But everytime my internet goes down (multiple times per day), all I do is run my Yahoo spyware program and remove the tracking cookies and my internet comes back up. Unfortunately, I have to re-validate my gurupatron status, but I'm wondering what sites I'm going to that's throwing these cookies on my computer as many times I'm not going much of anywhere.
