I DLed this browser after a friend said it would stop the hanging that I'd been getting from a site using updated via java.

When I first DLed it, I got all the add ons etc. and it worked brilliantly. No more hangups (CBS was brutal) and generally loaded more quickly and was more efficient than IE. But the next day, the java didn't work at all and the error msgs for java are off the chart. Obviously, I had to go back to IE. I've talked with a couple people and they've had no problems. What am I missing?

I'm not sure, Ref. I would simply try again with a barebones version, and add only the things you need.

I didnt get any add-ons and it works fine for the most part. But it doesn't seem to like CBS for me either, so I use IE for CBS viewing pleasure.

CBS hangs horribly in IE. Firefox worked (past tense) wonderfully. The main reason I got it. Gotta figure out how to remove that java add-on now. Maybe it will be under remove programs--now watch me remove java altogether!!!

I had two java's on my program list so I deleted the oldest. Nothing changed. In fact, it's so bad that on the java site I don't even see a Red X to say it's not working--let alone all the stuff that shows that it is. I think I'm just going to remove firefox altogether. I'll give it until tonight.

Delete the whole thing and reinstall.

I don't have any problem with CBS at all. Could be regional?

I deleted it. then i removed all three programs that had to do with java. I then reinstalled the java runtime 5.0 again. IE came back perfectly and firefox is still out.

It affects java on all pages. Like this site, yahoo, etc. It was worth the try but think I'll trash it. Just don't understand why it worked at first and now it is trash.

I've had problems on and off since downloading the newest version of java a couple months ago. I see that update 3 is the newest version. Make sure to remove all the previous versions before installing this one. link I've just installed it myself, but have no idea if it is successful for not.

Alternately, if there is a page that hangs in firefox, I find the ieview extension very useful.

Still having issues.

In the meantime, how do I make yahoo messenger default back to IE instead of mozilla? can't find it anywhere. All other apps are directing to IE again.

quick firefox question:

On some webpages you can click on a link and it opens a new firefox browser. I want to have it open as a new tab. I used to have it but somehow I crashed Firefox today and now I can't remember where that option is. I want everything to open in a new tab, not browser.

Anybody know?

IIRC you have to download an extension for FireFox. Try doing a search for "Tabbed Browsing"

Hope that helps.

if you hold down the [CTRL]-key while you click the link it is opened in a new tab

yeah, that much i know. But some links you click on open a new browser and I'd like to tweak that. Checking out extensions and such now but nothing so far.

the plugin had a problem with the latest firefox version (1.0.5)

what version of Firefox and the Extension are you running? have you updated both?

I also found this here:
The Help documentation refers to "Single Window Mode" options regarding "Force links opened in new windows to open in [New Tab, Same Tab]." This function was disabled at the last minute due to problems we were experiencing with it, so ignore this section of Help. To re-enable the Single Window Mode options (at your own risk - there may be crashes), use the Configuration Console (accessed by entering "about:config" in the Location bar and pressing Enter) to set browser.tabs.showSingleWindowModePrefs to true.

I gave tabs a reasonable tryout, but just didn't find it all that big an advantage. Alt-tabing through windows isn't particularly cumbersome, and windowing to see multiple pages at once is much easier without tabs.

That said, I love the other features of firefox.

GoTo Options ... Click "tabbed browsing" ... Click "Tab Focus" ... Click "Load middle-clicked URLs in new tabs".

I use the roller-wheel (middle clicker) all the time and open new tabs in the background.

Re: Java - I believe that they are up to update 5 now. This seems to have fixed all my java issues. Finally.
