0 Subject: Windows XP Professional Load Problem

Thanks to a new computer for Christmas, I'm finally living in the Windows XP world (previously was living in the Windows 98 world). This is a home built computer starting with an Intel D945PSN motherboard and Pentium D processor and Windows XP Professional OS.

Right now the computer seems to be working fine with one minor problem on boot up. The OS complains that ACTSKN43.OCX is not correctly registered. This message pops up in a small window labeled StacSysTray.

Do I need to be worried about this? If so, how do I go about getting ACTSKN43.OCX loaded properly.

if the file is on your computer (in the Windows\system32-directory) just enter this at the commandline: regsvr32.exe actskn43.ocx

this should register that file in windows

Youngroman - The file doesn't seem to be on my hard drive. At least a search in Windows Explorer doesn't find it.

Thanks, Youngroman. Any idea what this file does and why I might need it?

Thanks for the heads up, Youngroman. You've given much more info than I could find on my own. From your references, it looks like this is associated with the built-in sound device, by SigmaTel, that Intel is using on my Motherboard. I don't have the Malware version of StacSysTray, just the official one that's supposed to be there. Thanks again for all the info.

I am having the same problem.

I downloaded the Intel HD Audio / Sigmatel upgrade from Intel's website for the D945PSN motherboard (Audio: Sigmatel 9220/9221/9223 v5.10.4866_V6).

It installed without error, but now when I log in, I get the error:
"StacSysTray: Component 'actskn43.ocx' or one of its dependencies is not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid."

I tried downloading actskn43.ocx as suggested above and put it in WINDOWS/system32. Now when I log in, I get the error:
"StacSysTray: error initializing Sigmatel Control Menu: (3) object variable or With block variable not set"

I tried uninstalling the Sigmatel software with Remove Programs, but then the audio driver doesn't start (with an error about that upon login).

I reinstalled the Sigmatel driver upgrade but was back to where I started.

I tried an older version of the driver upgrade (v5.10.4825) but got the same results.

I sent an email to Intel customer support, but received a canned response that ignored all the information I provided and concluded that it was "likely related to a corrupt registry" and that I should erase the hard disk and start over. But this vague response does not correspond to the symptoms. And following the advice would require repeating 40 hours worth of machine configuration, so it is a last resort.

Any ideas?

I too had the same problem with a D945PSN board. I was able to fix it by doing several things.

1. I took dowloaded a copy of the actskn43.ocx file and placed it in the system32 directory. That only changed the error message.

2. After doing some looking on intel's site, I noted that my BIOS was not the latest version. I downloaded the latest version from intel and updated my motherboard BIOS.

3. I then tried to uninstall and then re-install the audio driver for the motherboard, but I still got the same error.

4. I then uninstalled the audio driver, went to C:\Progam Files\Intel Desktop Board\ and deleted the audio directory.

5. I then downloaded the latest audio drivers from the intel website and installed the drivers.

This stopped the error from coming up again and the audio works fine. I don't use the audio for surround sound, so I don't know what it would do in that configuration.

I have the same StacSysTray: error initializing Sigmatel Control Menu: (3) object variable or With block variable not set" error, on a D945GNT MB. I totaly cleaned my computer from any remaims of the audio drivers, Sigmatel etc and still have that problem. Audio is not working well. Intel does not care about trying toi help.

I seem to have fixed the problem I was having, thanks to the advice from Steve E. Here is what I did.

First, I did the following, which did *not* work:
1. Removed C:\Progam Files\Intel Desktop Boards (note that this directory is sometimes named "Intel Desktop Board" and sometimes named "Intel Desktop Boards". I think the first name was a transient installation error that Intel later fixed.)
2. (Re-)installed the Intel Sigmatel driver package
3. Added actskn43.ocx to the WINDOWS/system32 directory

After that did not fix the problem, I then did the following which worked:
1. Uninstalled the Sigmatel driver using Add/Remove Programs and rebooted
2. Deleted C:/Program Files/Intel Desktop Boards
3. Added actskn43.ocx to the WINDOWS/system32 directory
4. (Re-)installed the Sigmatel driver from Intel

At this point the problem was gone. I do not know whether the critical step was adding actskn43.ocx before installation or whether it was uninstalling the Sigmatel driver before reinstalling or something else.

NOTE 1: Intel has been revising this driver frequently. In the 3 weeks I have had this issue, the driver on Intel's website has been updated several times:
5.10.4825_XP32_XP64_MCE_W2K_V1 (17 MB)
5.10.4866_XP32_XP64_MCE_W2K_V6 (21 MB)
5.10.4991.0_XP32_XP64_MCE_W2K_V1 (24 MB)
5.10.4991.0_XP32_XP64_MCE_W2K_V2 (24 MB)

NOTE 2: The program "Intel Audio Studio" appears twice in my Add or Remove Programs list. Neither one can be removed. Uninstalling the Sigmatel driver removed one of them. Reinstalling Sigmatel added the second instance back again.

I Had the same problem as described by Paul K. I followed Paul's directions and they worked.
Thank you.

One thing I did notice was that with the first installation which caused the problem, the desk top icon appeared on the desk top during installation for a few seconds but then disappeared. After following Paul's directions, the desk top icon remained.

I would like to thank Steve E and Paul K for their solution to the problem. I have the same problem with my Intel D945PSN motherboard after updating the Intel Sigmatel Audio package. I try a different sequence and it also works.

- Uninstalled Sigmatel from add/remove program
- Deleted C:/Program Files/Intel Desktop Boards
- Added actskn43.ocx to the WINDOWS/system32 directory
- Reboot
- Re-installed Sigmatel Audio driver from Intel

Thanks again guys, appreciate the help.

component actskn43.ocx or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalad. I followed your recommendation and even purchased Registry Mechanic. My system still comes up and says the same message as above. All Help appreciated so I can get this message off or get it to stop coming up when I turn the computer on...... THANKS!!!!

I remember when I did the original install I noticed it failed to register a driver but everything seemed to work until today (weeks later).

I did the uninstall of the Sigmatel audio.

Deleted the C:/Program Files/Intel Desktop Boards

Then reinstalled the latest Sigmatel audio from Intel's site.

Worked like a charm for me too.

Thanks

Found this info below - it might help too - doing this you may not have to do the uninstall/reinstall thing. I don't know but am about to find out! :0
------------------------------------------------
When you download OCX files you are supposed to register them with your Operating System in order for them to function properly.

The following article explains how to Register an ActiveX Control (.ocx) Manually:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;146219

SUMMARY
When you distribute a Microsoft Visual FoxPro application that uses an ActiveX control (.ocx file), the .ocx file must be registered correctly for it to work correctly. The Visual FoxPro Setup Wizard or InstallShield Express in Visual FoxPro 7.0 or a later version of Visual FoxPro will register an .ocx file correctly, provided that you select the OLE check box in Step 6 for the .ocx file. If a Visual FoxPro application that uses an .ocx file is distributed by some other method, the .ocx file must be registered manually. This article describes how to register an .ocx file manually.

I found that connector you were looking for
Cindy, is this the thing you were looking for?
www.liangdianup.com/computeraccessories_1.htm

It's on the list of computer accessories and parts. They have the DVI video thing to convert that jap monitor to work with your other computer. Just about any other kind of wire adaptor, usb connectors, monitor extension wires, ps2 extention wires, and all kinds of female and male swap connectors and things that I think would help your shop. If that above link don't work then goto www.lducompany.com and click on computer accessories. Let me know if that is what you need and give me your email address again.
