I seem to have got FriendGreeting or some other spyware that makes minimized windows disappear off the taskbar. Spyhunter 2.0 says it will find and remove this. Anyone have any experience with Spyhunter? |

New to me, but Download.com has some pretty harsh reviews on the product and the company.
Does Microsoft's Anti-Spyware program do anything about it?

Ouch. I think I'll look for something else. McAfee's suggestion involves fooling around with the Registry which I'm not going to do.

eliminating spyware/adware these days, almost requires mucking in the Registry. Just make certain you have a current backup onhand, or the ability to execute a system restore, should you inadvertantly delete something you shouldnt have.
(Easy for some, not for others possible solution....Best Buy has a "Geek Squad" crew in their stores. Take the tower to them and have them fix it.)

I had had the problem beofre, and fixed it with the little tool found here, but then it came back. Googling a little, I understand the parasite rebuilds itself after a while. I'll probably continue using this temporary fix if the thing keeps coming back only once a week ago.
The regular anti-virus programs don't deal with this because it is permissioned media: I must have clicked on an end-user agreement when sending an e-greeting card recently. Here's a list of sites from McAfee to avoid for e-greeting cards:
