Subject: ESPN.com problems in Firefox

Is anyone else having difficulties with ESPN.com using the Firefox browser? Or, perhaps it isn't my browser?
When I visit ESPN.com, my CPU usage goes to 100%, the ESPN.com window freezes and my computer basically comes to a standstill. Does anyone know if this might be due to a problem with my computer or is it exactly what I think it is - the new ESPN.com setup is terrible?
I really should refrain from making statements of any kind. |

FireFox routinely crashes for me if I leave a tab at ESPN.com for a couple of minutes. I don't know what it is, but don't really care.
The only thing I really read anymore is Bill Simmons, 1/2 of their articles are "Insider" and I don't want to pay to read most of the drivel.
I can't remember what it was, but a different website was mocking the "Insider" forecast for a NFL game earlier this season. One of the keys points was a certain player had to step up and have a big game. The problem was that the player had been put on the IL a couple of weeks earlier.
Do you really want to pay for the that kind of extremely useful information?

Frick, can you please provide a link to the Insider forecast of which you are speaking? It's one thing to say "I don't want to read this" but it's another thing to claim that a website regularly posts that kind of information without so much as a link.

blue hen, call me crazy, but how would he link to a paying site which he openly admits he has no interest in paying for?
and for what its worth, in my opinion ESPN.com has become a joke. Any articles with insight are all for Insider. If you want to read real articles and thought provoking material the last place you go is ESPN.com unless you want to pay for it.

My computer hasn't frozen, but I have had a lot of difficulty getting on to the ESPN site the past few days. I do not have Firefox.

Blue Hen, no problem. IIRC it was pointed out by Steve Czaban on Czabe.com, I can't/don't want to go to the site at work, but I'll look for it tonight when I go home tonight.
I will say that ESPN.com has gotten more and more "jumbled" over the years. They keep adding more and more features and all I really want is the content.
One of the biggest complaints I currently have is the "shrinking" ads. One of my fantasy leagues was run through ESPN.com and you couldn't click on the link at first until the ad had shrunk. It was equally annoying when I saw a link I want to click and move my mouse and click the instant after the ad had shrunk and I ended up somewhere else.
I was equally annoyed when TMQ was taken off of ESPN.com because he had a negative comment to say about Michael Eisner, IIRC.

I used to read ESPN for Neyer's articles, ever since they moved him to Insider I haven't ever used the site. Even took it out of my favorites a few months ago.
For ESPN's POV, is the Insider thing working out? Making as much money as you guys thought it would? The marketing dude in me is curious...

Blue Hen, I looked for the article about Insider being wrong, but I couldn't find it.
On a different note, can you tell someone that the articles that rotate, rotate to quickly. By the time that I have started reading the 2nd or 3rd article description, it has moved to the next topic.
Also, please ask that they label the articles that are Insider material. I have a high-speed connection, but I hate wasting the time to click on an interesting article only to find it is Insider. This only frustrates me more and causes me to visit ESPN.com less and less, it does not make me want to be come and Insider.

There were a myriad of annoying aspects to the espn website. I found these problems, to be espns problems, not firefox's or ie's.

I too am having trouble connecting to espn with firefox, but I can connect just fine with IE. I wonder.. "if Microshaft and ESPN got in bed?" Doesn' matter to me anymore, as others have pointed out here, half of the ESPN site is made up of insider articles. I am not going to pay to read those things! Sorry, I'm moving on to other free sites...or I'll just watch ESPN on cable.

Well Firefox does not freaze only with espn.
I think this is definitly a firefox problem and this is not the only website where i have the problem.
Firefox just run a lot of cpu and memory keep growing up

It's on the list of computer accessories and parts. They have the DVI video thing to convert that jap monitor to work with your other computer. Just about any other kind of wire adaptor, usb connectors, monitor extension wires, ps2 extention wires, and all kinds of female and male swap connectors and things that I think would help your shop.
