0 Subject: extracting databases from yahoo!

I had a VB macro in excel that could extract a database from the daily yahoo! rosters. now suddenly it returns nothing. I tried it on my CBSSportsline team and it works fine. Do you think Yahoo! has come up with a way to block excel from grabbing the daily stats?

No. I'm doing it, using the same routines as in prior years.

Ditto. No problems.

Then my next question is what am I doing wrong? Can I get your VB macros somehow?

I use an excel macro which simply reads in a number of different league pages, yanks the stats, and does some processing. It works as long as I am simultaneously logged into my Yahoo ID (through my browser).

The statement to open a page is very simple:

Workbooks.Open Filename=:"http://baseball.fantasysports.yahoo.com/b1/nnnnnn/standings"

where nnnnnn is the league id number.

Nothing fancy.

If either of you can email me your excel files I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm by no means a VB wiz. Thanks!

I've been racking my brain trying to figure out why the spreadsheet code is returning blank pages. If I change the URL to anything in yahoo up to and including the main league page, it works. But if I dig into standings or rosters it returns blank. I'm logged into Yahoo in IE, but I'm wondering if there's a super-secret login I need to use or something.

I think Guru releases the super secret logon code to you once you reach "sustainer" on the GuruPatron Plan.

Try clearing your cache. Sometimes excel is very willing to keep pulling a page from the cache instead of fetching it directly from the server.

I tried clearing the cache, I lowered the privacy settings to accept more cookies. Nothing seems to work. I use Firefox and Im guessing that has something to do with it, even though Ive gone so far to reboot the machine and open IE instead of Firefox. They both share the same cookies.

I think now it's more I want to know why it doesnt work for me while working for at least 3 other people. It's very strange!
