Subject: Computer Training

Perhaps a bit of a broad question,
I am looking at taking some computer courses to flesh out the resume a little bit. I am pretty computer literate with experience in Powerpoint, Excel, etc, but was wondering what you guys would suggest might get me the best return on investment with further computer training?
HTML? Web Design? MCSE Training? IT?
I don't have any specific direction in mind, so the options are wide open!
Any thoughts? |

What field are you in? Depending on what field you are in, we can probably help with the suggestions. If you are looking to change fields, what are you in now, what are you looking for.
With no background, I would suggest MS Access.

Right now I work with developing youth programs for the government, but I would love to enhance my resume by adding some extra skills, giving me the flexibility to maybe move up/over within the department.
Access...I know a little bit about it, is it commonly used?

Depends on what you mean by commonly? Access is very powerful for database management. If you know how to use it, it can do some slick stuff. Depending on what you do, I would recommend learning it.

Thanks guys...
I will look into a course on Access. Also thinking of looking into learning how to build a computer on my own. I live just outside the computer valley of Ontario, so I can get really well priced hardware and components.

It would probably be better to learn about database design first before taking a class on Access. I would suggest a class or two that focused on the system development life cycle. Understanding how to design a database will help you then use whatever database software you want later. If you have an interst in building a computer then you could take a class in that as well, although some of them might just teach you basic outdated type things. Hardware will probably teach you basic things about RAM, CPU's etc, but a little research online can probably do as much or more if you already know something.
Most important is to do something that interests you.
