0 Subject: Noise cancelling headphones (Bose yes/no?)

I am looking into getting a set of noise cancelling headphones for travelling and for use at the poker table. The Bose model 2 and 3 retail for $299 and $349.

Does anyone have any experience with these models (are they worth it) VS. less expensive models ($100 - $150 range)?

What makes the Bose so much better performance-wise or is all the extra money paying for the name?

Any recommendations appreciated.

I have Panasonic noise canceling headphones. They cost me less than $70 and they work quite well. I use them to listen to music late at night when others are sleeping, and when I travel on airplanes.

I have never tried a very nice $300 set, but I can tell you that they make some high quality products in the lower dollar range. The one I linked comes with a nice carrying pouch and a couple of adapters for different outlets.

i have used the the cheaper bose models, which i can find a link to i think they may have discontinued them they where about $100-$150 a few years back . i thought they where pretty nice but i am sure that it is probably not worth the extra cost and from experience i have had a couple of people tell me that they have had the head sets damage while travellling on planes and would not want think about the disappiontment when $300 headphones get broken flying.

My cat chewed up my 250$ set a couple years ago, and I replaced it with a 30$ Koss model since I'm a poor-ass university student. ;) Not quite the same, but surprisingly not bad either. I certainly wont spring for the expensive ones unless I fall into some serious cash. The difference wasn't that noticable, so I'd have to think that the mid-range ones would be more than acceptable. That's just speculation though...

If only you were looking a week ago - link.

From the discussion

"My company makes noise reduction products, though for a completely different type of consumer. The noise compression and cancellation circuit in these is not bad at all. It gives up something to the bose units, but not where it matters. The difference in the cancellation capability has primarily to do with high frequency impulses. If you're rocking out in a situation involving gunfire I'd suggest removing the headphones and paying attention, possibly relocating."

Thanks guys. I found some from Panasonic for under $100 that I'll go with. I appreciate the Gurupie help.
