I run Safari on my MacBook, but can never post pics in threads.

Is this due to the fact that I use Safari?

Thanks.

I doubt it. If you have trouble posting pics, you probably aren't doing it properly.

You don't post the image itself, but instead you post an html image specification, where the url of the image must be accessible on the web. You can't post an image that resides only on your computer, and some personal hosting sites also block the transmission of images that are linked from outside their own domain.

The bare-bones syntax of the image tag is:
[img src="http://domain.com/xxx.jpg" height=h width=w]

Of course, you have to replace the [ and ] with < and >

The height and width are specifed in pixels, and are optional. If the image is very large, these can be effectively used to scale down the image to fit better.

You got spaces in the address. That's why it's not showing up properly.

You have the url lapping over several lines. You have to post it all on one line. It's possible that Safari is forcing those line feeds in the URL when it drops to a new line.

You might be able to overcome that by clicking on the "yes" button (to ignore line feeds)

angelfire does the same thing to me. It's some sort of new blocking protocal I believe. Try posting a pic from another source.

No, that's not his problem. The pic would come through fine, but he can't post a URL longer than the width of the text area, since the Safari browser is apparently imposing a line feed at the end of each line, even when the yes button is clicked below.

As I recall, older versions of FireFox did the same thing, but that's been fixed in recent years.

I may be able to cure this programmatically, but haven't had a chance to dig into it yet. And without access to Safari, I can't easily debug the details.

Perhaps the problem is with the way different OSes handle line feeds?

In Unix, a line feed is used for a new line; in Windows, a carriage return followed by a line feed. I did a quick search, and some versions of MacOS use only a carriage return. Does your "Ignore line feeds" option strip only line feeds? If so, you could try also stripping carriage returns (I think \r in perl, 0D in hex).

Worth a try.

angryChair, if you're still out there, try posting an image again, clicking "yes" to ignore line feeds. I have the program set up now to eliminate all line feeds and carriage returns.

option

if you choose the ignore line feeds=no, you get the blue "?"
