0 Subject: IE Explorer

When I open IE Explorer it won't let me open any other windows. I try to open up a new one - either by clicking on the icon or Ctrl+N and a new one appears and the old box just disappears.

Any idea what the heck is going on here?

question #1: why are you still using IE? :)

Didn't work...

I also checked and unchecked the "group similar items" thing on the taskbar - even though it wasn't grouping them anyhow... but, just a shot in the dark, but that didn't work either.

Under Internet Options, Security, make sure you have "Navigate sub-frames across different domains" enabled.

Make sure you aren't running any special pop-up blocker software that could be causing triuble.

I just went through Windows "search for updates" and what pops up? Internet Explorer 7.0

Looks like it was telling me to do that. Hopefully this works.

It wasn't telling you to do it---it just came out recently.....

Yeah, I was going to ask if you'd done a Windows Update as well. If not, might as well get your whole tuneup at once.

Interesting, they've gone to a tab system ala netscape. Not sure if I like that.

Anyway, thanks for the help, all fixed. And updated.

Alright, part 2 of this question is now... anyone know how to take the tab system off and have it let me open multiple new windows.

I prefer to have 5-6 boxes across the bottom and skip between them. Doesn't seem to let me want to open more than one even when I turn off Tabs in the Internet Options.

You can still open up new windows with CTL N. Does that help?

Nope, I do that, and then the old one disappears. This sucks.

Are you sure they aren't just stacking? For example, when I'm in IE and I CTL N, the bottom menu which includes the IE rectagle has a 2 appear, indicating the number of windows of that program is now 2.

No?

I know what you mean - the taskbar has "group similar items" option - then all IE is in the one box and you can skip between windows.

It is not that, when I try and open a new one or do Ctrl+N - the other box completely disappears. I think its forcing me to use the tab system essentially. Hell I even clicked on a boxscore from within my teams Yahoo page - and we know that usually opens up a new window. Well its doing it - and then the page with my team on it disappears.

Looks like I am gonna have to get used to the Tab System. I stopped using Netscape because of it in the first place. Oh well.

I use a combo of firefox and ie, depending on what I am working on. It's taken a little patience to get used to the tabs, but you will.....maybe......eventually.....someday.....hopefully...

I use Firefox and love the tabs, can't live without them.

But mainly I wanted to say that if you switch to Firefox, you will also be able to avoid the tabs altogether, as it has an option to use new windows when browsing.

I tryed AIM 6 on my other computer and decided to keep my AIM at 5.9... what ever the last version was before the 6 switch over. I can't stand 6.
