Setting up a new computer, and somehow I have added that little prompt for user name and password before it lets Windows really start loading. Any idea how to get rid of that? |

And you can use any brand monitor with any PC, right? I am working with a couple first rate brands (Compaq monitor w/ E-machine! lol...) and this thing keeps freezing up on me and rebooting.

i've never heard of a monitor not being compliant with a machine but to be honest I can't stand Compaq and Emachine is just below that on the junk pile in my mind (not trying to be offensive; just had too many experiences with them).

I am well aware they both stink, just trying to piece together an alternate computer here with some bits and pieces. Only thing new was the e-machine.

Guessing I can't this back to Best Buy since I didn't get the warranty or whatever. Heck, I don't even think I have the box anymore!

GO - To to control panel -- User accounts. Choose to change the account and there will be an option to remove the password.

Update. Went to BestBuy/GeekSquad. They ran tests and said everything is fine.
Also borrowed a different monitor and tried a different power strip just to test those parts out.
Still freezing and shutting down. And now, when I try and turn the thing on, the logo on the screen gets all blurry and locks up. Someone at work mentioned it might be the graphics card (driver?). But I can't even get the damn thing to turn on boot now.

Possibly overheating, are all fans work?

The guy at Best Buy said it was working, and he cleaned it off to make sure nothing was clogged up.
But this computer is brand new more or less... I only plugged it in 2 weeks ago. And its been this way from the first time I turned it on.

I came across a fix on the prompt for a password... all the above options did was remove the password to a blank -- but I still had to hit OK every time I was firing up the computer and that was annoying.
How to take that off?
Using the Run feature 1. Go to the "Start" button and choose "Run" 2. Hence, copy and paste the command CONTROL USERPASSWORDS2. When done, click "OK" 3. From the given list, select the user that you want to allow automatic login on 4. Disable the option "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" and click "OK" 5. When done, enter the password for the user account to allow this option
