Is there a place to find online manuals how to take apart a computer? Here's the situation:

-I am helping someone upgrade an old computer just so he can run one program (a UPS shipping label program). He has two computer, but likes his current setup and wants to leave everything unchanged as it has been like this for years...

-I went to crucial.com and bought the piece of RAM they specified through their website.

So the problem is, I can't reach the memory slots without removing other pieces. I tried it once, but it didn't recognize the upgrade, so I need to remove more pieces than just the cover to insert the RAM correctly.

Is there an online guide on how to do this?

This old computer is an HP Pavillion 6623 Series.

Thanks in advance...

I do not know of any install manuels though it sounds like you are doing things right are you sure that you did not install in correctly the first time and RAM you bought was either incorrect or bad. I also just read that some pairs of chips of RAM may not work together correctly in the HPs, so if you think you have it installed correctly and is still not reconizing you may want to remove the old chip and see if it works then.

I called tech support at crucial, and they said I'd probably need to take out other pieces to reach the slots.

He was telling me how I would need to line it all up and the little clamps on the outside should automatically close inwards.

I tried to reach in there, but I just don't think it's completely locked in, it's just too hard to reach....

yeah that can be a problem, you really do not want to take other parts out if you do not have too.

maybe there is a copy of this book at your local book store, it should have pictures i and explantions i would think.

smallwhirled, download the video from the HP website In some older hp systems, instead of just removing the floppy drive you have to push out the cage that holds the hard drive, optical drive and floppy drives out. If that is the case you need to loosen the screw at the top edge by the release tab.

Thanks xpdurmind. Your post really helped, and I was able to figure it out....the computer recognized the new memory.
