Is anyone using this yet? I just downloaded it and after about an hour of use I am hooked. I was on FireFox 3 and I
really liked that too. The only thing this doesn't have is the Page Updater and Greasemonkey, but I am sure there will be
something new added so you can use those. I really liked how it brought over my bookmarks (which FireFox 1 I think, did
when I switched from IE.

I'm not sure if it's the fact that it doesn't have the File Toolbar or what but it's just got these little things about it
that I like better than FireFox. I'm sure the first problem I have with it will have me cursing to the heavens. |

I just read about Chrome and IE8. According to the article from a techie on PitStop, he thinks IE8 is better than his beloved Firefox. Leaps and bounds better than IE7 and loaded in 15 seconds. He hasn't been able to review Chrome yet.
My guess is that Chrome will be solid. I love Google search and their gmail. For soem reason firefox and java have never been friens with me--but lately IE7 has started causing problems more and more again. I've started using Firefox jsut for GLB but with these other browsers, I might be able to go that way.

GLB's Greasemonkey Scripts are the only thing I'm missing right now Ref. Everything else seems just about the same
if not better. A search bar in the top right corner would be nice to have too, but I am sure that's forthcoming
once enough Firefox users switch over.
Not to make this sound like a bunch of complaints but there's a couple small things that I've found annoying:
1. Posting in RotoGuru, if I don't stretch out the box I am typing in to the full screen it'll cause really weird
looking messages with line breaks after every line in the box. That's not fun. But something I'll get used to.
It'd be nice if they got rid of that, or automatically stretched out the box to the width you had it last.
2. My scrolling ball in the middle of my left and right clicks on the mouse (I'm sure there's a better name for it)
doesn't scroll when I click on it anymore. Not sure why that is, but it's a little aggravating. Still scrolls when
I roll it though.

There was a similar line feed issue for some other browser - Mac-related, as I recall. I figured out a workaround for that, so I can probably do something comparable for chrome. I'll try to remember to look at this sometime in the next few weeks.
Interesting that chrome allows you to resize the text box. I haven't seen any other browsers that offer that capability.

OK. I installed Chrome, and can see the cause of the problem.
In most browsers, when typing into a text area, when the line wraps there is no line feed inserted at the end of the line.
However, chrome inserts a line feed character at the end of each line, whether you type one there or not. I suspect it may be something that is eventually corrected - because it's probably not intended.
However, until that time, I have built in some logic that will force Chrome messages to automatically ignore line feeds unless you enter two consecutive times, in which case it will convert that double line feed to the HTML code for a new paragraph. (You will actually see that code inserted in appropriate place in the text area when you review your post.)
This should make most posts behave as you would naturally expect them. It will also allow embedded links and spoiler text to operate properly.
For other browsers, this change should have no impact.

Just testing the change, using the chrome browser for this post. Even though the text in this paragraph is wrapping around in the text box, it should not do so when displaying in the posted message. See? It works!

Speaking of ads, I heard Chrome inserts ads through the browser that wouldn't normally be on a page you're viewing. Any comments from Chrome users?

Chrome is only a browser, and is independent of any email client you use.
In other words, you can still use Outlook Express.

I guess my question really is, can one toggle back and forth between Chrome an OE? On the IE tool bar there is a mail button that is used to switch to OE; then minimizing OE gets one back to IE. It's convenient. In any event my initial impression of Chrome is faster than IE.

I guess I'm the resident Chrome user right now, since no one else has commented on it. I never used an add blocker, but I had Firefox's built in popup blocker. Chrome also has a popup built in and I've only had 1 popup slip through. There's a little window on the bottom (where the status bar for most browsers would be) that lets you know a pop up has been blocked. The thing about Firefox's blocker is it would sometimes block things like Fanball's live scoring or an article that you'd click and have open in a new window. Chrome has yet to do that for me. I haven't seen anything that Balrog is talking about, nor have I read anything about it. Loki, I don't understand what your talking about. There is only 6 buttons on the top (Back, Forward, Refresh, Bookmark [current site], Control the current page [like the File drop down], and Customize Chrome [like the Options drop down]) It's extremely cut and dry and I've liked the way it's worked so far. I don't know if they'll add any toolbars like Firefox. I had a couple on Firefox (Plus Greasemonkey) so I am hoping that they add that soon.

I've used it since it came out. As an IE7 user it takes a little time to get used the homepage and the toolbar but it's definitely worth it. I can access my bookmarks faster and the browsing experience is much better.

I haven't gotten a popup yet. But I have had some problems posting here with it rearranging how I want things spaced. I am loving the right click option of "Search Google for ___" very useful. Browsing quicker as well, jumping between things with ease.

I haven't checked it out yet, but all the "new" features you list and that are listed here or on various reviews online, are already implemented in the Opera browser for years. the only new concept is the "every tab is an own process" idea. I will try Chrome when it is out of his beta phase, but until then Opera it is.

Well that shouldn't be to much of a surprise since Chrome is based on Safari.
I like Chrome, but I haven't fully switch over yet. I might try it on my wife's Mac and see if it doesn't help with some of her lag issues.

One thing I noticed this weekend with Chrome that was a little frustrating was ESPN's automatic updates weren't running. I would have to hit refresh for my live scoring in those leagues. Fanball, Fleaflicker and Yahoo all worked though. It's worked with baseball all year, so I have a feeling it's a programming code and probably won't be fixed until Baseball season next year. That's just my assumption though. I don't know when Google is going release the non-beta version of Chrome.

So far Chrome has not frozen nor apologized because it has encountered a problem and must shut down as IE frequently does. QUESTIONS: Is there a way to send a link other than copying and pasting into OE? OE has a drop down menu for this. Is there a way to send a web page as can be done with OE? There is no apparent PRINT button, but one of the Google help groups had a Java code that could be copied and dragged to the bookmark bar, but have not had a chance to try this yet. Has someone tried to print using Chrome?

Until I can play around with the plug-ins via the "Options", Chrome isn't of use to me at work. I can't install the Flash plug-in so it screws up many screens. No administrator privileges means I can't edit the plugins anywhere but from within the actual browser.

like everyone else on this forum....it doesn't like you? ;) j/k. I use Chrome and I don't have that problem. One thing I have noticed is that when I click the link to automatically display the last post it doesn't work properly. With Chrome it appears to scroll down to the last post that I have previously viewed. Not sure what that is about, but I never had that issue with IE.

Chrome handles wrap-around text within a text area differently than most other browsers, which is why the text sometimes moves from one line to the next - and is also why I had to implement a browser-specific workaround to avoid having the text wrapping too narrowly. (See posts 2-5)
Jumping to the last post works fine for me using Chrome. Must be something specific to your setup.

Yeah, I really hate trying to type on this site in Chrome. Its a freaking mess trying to make a list. in Chrome... ApplesBananasCanariesDevils And even if I put those little (/P)'s in there, it adds an extra line of spacing. Its been the only annoying part of Chrome for me. Guru - you think thats something they'll fix eventually?
