Any MAC users have a recommendation for an application to run a "check" on my MAC?
Maybe something to remove spyware. etc?

iStat or iStat Pro. You can download it as a widget and it will monitor your system usage.
I can't look it for it at the moment, but you should be able to find it easily enough.
