Subject: Printing A List of Pages

Here's the basic problem. Each day I get 500 page PDF file, and I go through and print about 50 random pages from it for reporting purposes. This gets a bit tedious to "print current page" or to enter the range of pages. My theory is that I should be able to give a list of pages (I could cut/paste it in each day). Say print "1, 4, 16, 19, 22, 45" and it would just print all at once. Any ideas? I just had a thought that maybe somewhere in Adobe PDF that I could make a new PDF file with just those pages --- and then print that entire new PDF. |

You can specify what pages you want to print when the print box opens up in Adobe. That's probably the easiest.

The only flexibility I see there is a range... i.e. "print pages 11-24" -- but I can't do a list of random pages.

If you plug in a string you should be good, separated by commas.
I.E., "1-2, 5, 12-15, 55, 57, 59"

Yeah, I remember printing like that previously (and its available using say Microsoft Word) but not from Adobe PDF's The only options are -- All, Current View, Current Page or Pages From ___ to ___ So if thats the case, maybe I need to focus on getting just those pages out of PDF and then the printing process.

You'd think with all the good things Adobe (Acrobat I guess?) can do, it should be able to come up with a solution. I wonder if I couldn't do a macro of some sort like I can do in excel... hmm.

Hmm. The last option is just two boxes? Are you using Adobe 8? If not (for the latter) maybe you want to update your Adobe to the latest version.

I found a way to export it to Word, where I could then use my list -- 1, 4, 7-12, 18 etc But the formatting goes haywire once it gets to Word.

GO: Would installing the free Adobe Reader suffice? (If I understand your opening message correctly, you want to print hard copies of select pages only, not necessarily create a new PDF from an existing document.)

Only problem is this is a work computer and I can't really download anything, won't let me make those types of changes.

Any chance you can convince a network administrator to upgrade your Adobe? Sounds like the lack of an upgrade is affecting your ability to do your job.
The upgrade is free--just takes a few minutes to do.

perhaps, perhaps... I can do it, but certainly it would speed things up. I'll probably test it out tonight at home before I go through the effort.
