Subject: System restore points

For some reason my computer has decided that making restore points isn't possible any longer. I went to the Vista error code section and followed the directions and it made one last night. Today it has the same problem but different error code. So then I tried to do a scannow from the admin command prompt. It fixed a few errors but didn't fix the ones I apparently needed.
A separate problem has arisen also windows claims that it can't download updates but when I manually check all available updates have been installed.
Any ideas on cures or am I just going to have to live with it. |

Some viruses or malware will attempt to disable automatic update capabilities.
Have you done a virus scan lately?
I had one such problem on my laptop several months ago (Windows XP, but a similar problem), and was able to eradicate the malware using the free version of Malware bytes. You might try that.

Kind of paranoid so I scan the with virus /adware programs every night along with them supposedly running for real time protection. The really bad part is now the error code I got doesn't exist in the Windows Vista help section. Playing with the register scares me as I have no training in computers but am willing to try anything. But without the restore point I have no way back when(not if) I screw up.
The malware program didn't help. But thank you anyway.

Take it back the restore doesn't work and Windows still insists that it can't do updates. But it just DL the updates and asked if I wanted to install them and then the next little white ballon said windows can't update them. But I got them installed.
So thanks again for the help.
