I have an iBook G4. The ethernet cable now will not lock into the ethernet port. It will work ok, but I have to keep plugging it back in as it works it way out. I went to Best Buy and they told me I would have to replace the whole board that contains the ethernet plug and that it would be $300-$600. No way I am going to pay that. Is there any other solution? |

Get a wireless router.

Is it the cable ? There is a little piece that snaps into place when the cable is plugged in. It might just need a new cable.

I have a wireless router, but it is upstairs and I have not been able to figure out how to boost the signal enough. Sometimes it works, sometimes I have no signal. I bought a box from slingbox that works through the electrical outlets and I have good strength with that. Any thoughts on how to extend the strength? I had a thing called a Hawking extender, but it didn't seem to work consistently.
It is not the plug because my son plugged it into his laptop and it secured just fine.
Thanks for the thoughts.

Does the laptop stay in one place mostly? Or do you move it around? If it stays in one spot you could try to put something, like a book, on the cord to keep it from backing out.
