Co-worker uses his laptop for work. He has viruses. We know this much to be 100% true. The problem is, whatever virus he has is blocking access to every single virus removal website that I know of. We've tried about 7 of them and we cannot access them. We get a message stating the site cannot be found.

Testing other sites (like espn.com) sometimes gets us where we want, sometimes gets us redirected to 'search engine' sites.

Web pages listed as tech support or tech forum pages specifically are also blocked. Can anybody suggest some tech forum pages to try?

There are a few items in the taskmanager I do not recognize however I cannot look them up. I normally do lookups by typing the .exe into the yahoo search and looking at teh blurbs that come up to get an idea of where to start. The problem is I think even the yahoo search is compromised.

Kind of stuck. Any other ideas? He's on vista Home edition which I'm not too familiar with.

At one point we got a pop up asking us to update java[tm]. It said yes to download the new version or click no to go back to the license agreement. Further down it said, "If you don't want to see this message again please uninstall Java[tm] from your system."

Clicking on the orange X in the upper right corner did not close that box down.

I got a similar virus once -- used Ccleaner to clean it out.

The virus pretended to be part of my computers antivirus, so I did ctrl alt del on startup before it got going and stopped the application.

Thanks GO. Somehow the blocker missed stopzilla so I was able to download that to the guys laptop and run it. so far its about 27% of the way thru and 12 infections found. Captcha, XDefender, hostserver.d among others have made a nice little home in his directory. Time for eviction notices to be served!

Everyone needs to have Hijackthis installed and keep track of your regular installation so you can disable unfriendly newcomers. Any online forum for malware removal will ask you to run a hijackthis scan so they can discern your problem.
