0 Subject: Internet Connection Issues

I've had this happen to me a few times in the past and I'm wondering how to fix if it happens again.
My wireless connection log says I have connected to my network at full strength and have "Excellent" signal strength.

So why does the internet not work for like half an hour? I can't get pages to load. I put it down, and an hour later come back and its fine, but what was broken there for a while?

And while we are at it... lately I've been clicking on My Team in Yahoo (Google Chrome) and the page shows up blank. Then I click it again and the team finally loads.

What might cause that? what is Yahoo using for the drag and drop rosters? like Java or something like that might be out of date?

My guess is that it's your ISP.

[0] Try power cycling your router when this happens (unplug for 30 seconds, then plug in again).

I have similar symptoms occasionally, and this always fixes it.

I don't know if your Yahoo issue is related to that, however. That sounds like you just aren't getting a complete page load the first time. Or maybe it's a cache issue.

Re:1 Maybe that's Google Chrome's way of telling you your team is worth nothing.

Check for update drivers for your wireless card as well as updated firmware for your wireless router.

Weird. I had a similar problem this morning. Our wireless had the "no signal" light on so I tried resetting it a few times and nothing happened.

I plugged the wire directly into the computer and still didn't get anything so I called the ISP. They had me unplug and power down their modem and they "looked at it" remotely after it came back on and said it wasn't being recognized. I made an appointment for a tech to come out Monday. A few hours later I walked by the wireless router and it's "green to go" and everything is back up and running, be it ever so slowly.

I think I'll still have the tech show up and look it over.

Barilko - or maybe Chrome is telling me they are soo good I don't need to makes changes! :)

Guru I've down the power down thing the other night. Didn't seem to help. I did try clearing the cache, that was my first guess too.

It just happened again though, and i just restarted and it fixed it again.

FYi - The wireless router is a brand new Cisco-Linksys WRT400N Simultaneous Dual-Band Wireless-N Router

So I would think the router stuff is up to date, no? Wireless card definitely sounds like a good update candidate though.

Not necessarily up to date because you don't know how long the router sat before you bought it.
I would take a look see.

I have had similar issues with slow connectivity with wireless routers.

My solution was to log into my wireless router and change the default start ip value that the router issues to wireless devices.

default is for linksys is *.*.*.100. I changed it to 110.

Seems to work for me.

Re 6: To follow up, the guy came out and plugged a different modem in and it didn't sync up, either. When he plugged his magic signal-checker thing in it said the signal was strong, though. He checked the outside wiring, climbed to pole out back, and even ran a new line straight from the pole to the internet outlet and still couldn't get the modem to sync up.

Finally he said, "I'm going to get a brand new modem out of the truck." He plugged it in and after about five minutes it hadn't synced, either. He was packing his stuff after calling in a big-time supervisor tech and all of a sudden it (the brand new modem) lit up like a Christmas tree. He said, "These things do this just to piss me off." I laughed, he left. It's worked fine since.
