OK gang, I'm in northern CA, Weaverville to be exact. Mountains, thick heavy evergreen forests. Not far at all, like a couple miles, from where the old CA Gold rush originated.

Now, because of those mountains, trees etc, on this particular property, I cannot get satellite TV service. They can "in town" (2 miles maybe from me) but not here where I am. Cable provider...BLOWS. NO digital, doesnt have cable boxers AT ALL and neither my flat screen TV nor home theater rcvr has a co-axial connection. I need a cable box for their old style analog co-ax, with an HDMI out, so I can hook up the system.

Since the cable company here is still stuck in the 1980s,...does anybody KNOW if there is a way to mount a satellite TV rcvr (Direct or DISH I dont much give a damn which), remotely, and then transmit wirelessly the signal to the house?

HAS to be a way, for gawds sake we can transmit live video feeds to our phones in real time between Cambodia and here., SURELY, we can get a TV signal sent 2 or 3 miles somehow?

I honestly don't think there is a way sarge.

Are you sure you can't get a signal pointing south? Remove a tree or 2?

Try asking at this website. They have a toooon of knowledgeable people, including some installers and DTV employees.

DBSTalk (for Directv. Check the Dish forum there if you'd prefer that.)

well, found a work around, but doesnt let me trash the cable.

Install a TV Tuner to the laptop, use Windows Media center (already installed but no tuner card) and then i can connect via HDMI, the laptop to the surround sound and the sound system to the flat screen.

Just means plugging the laptop into the TV, in order to watch TV on the big screen.

Thinking truthfully, might be worth buying a $300 computer with tuner, JUST for that purpose.

So you finally joined the last honest, fast growing, profitable industry in America, growing marijuana. Good for you, sarge.

My daughter just started school at Humboldt State in Arcata. We'll have to meet for vapor hits when I'm down there next ;)

lmao SZ. Actually, folks here tell me there is no profit in it anymore. Folks with the card to buy for medicinal, can grow their own. Price has fallen, from $300/oz to $150 or so. I would though SZ, enjoy the oppty to meet you. :)

Anyhow, via Windows Media Center, with a TV Tuner Card, my notebook hasd an HDMI. :) I can hook that to the theater system which in turns goes to the flatscreen.

I DO though, need a MUCH better graphics card. The 42" flat HD TV, shows a LOT of faults in the display which the little notebook display hides.

Long story Cliff, which I've been told I should talk with a screenwriter and turn it into a movie. lol Not so sure, truth isnt enough stranger than fiction,. that no one would suspend their disbelief for long enough to buy into the reality of it. :)
