Last night my computer shutdown with everything running on it. When I started it up again I couldn't get any of the net things to work. So figured maybe comcast was down or something was up with that and went to bed. Well now after about 13 hours its still out and isn't a comcast problem that I can see. Being hooked to wireless connection I can see its working and i'm recieving and sending information but I can't get any of the net stuff to work. So i'm thinking when it shutdown last night, something from there is sucking up all of my bandwidth not allowing me to get onto anything. Anyone have a clue what to do? I try to repair the IP and everything and it says its working propertly.

Have you turned your modem off and back on? Normally when the power goes out here I have to reset my modem in order to connect again.

if you're connected thru a router, turning it off for a minute or two and then back on can work also...

Yeah, turn both off. Wait a minute or two then turn the modem back on. After it establishes connection, turn the router on.

Nah its run through comcast's own crappy wireless connection thing in a different room. And it wasn't the power that went out, my computer did. Not even connected to connection to the comcast box. Anyone else have comcast near Delaware that IS working? Still haven't been able to figure out if its my computer or a comcast problem.

So, we were hit my lightening a few weeks ago. Got the router and the cable modem, however the computers seemed fine - the lightening got all the cable stuff in the house, but no TV's etc.

We ordered 2 new nic cards and a new router. Hooked them up yesterday. New nic cards turned out to be no good. Off to the computer shop the two 'puters went. 2 more new nic cards, and 3 hrs of labor. They say the 'puters are talking to each other networked through the router. Wrote a check, picked up the 'puters.

Get home, hook them up...they don't see each other, won't talk, zip. Of course the shop is now closed for the weekend. Yes, my computer is online (a good thing!), unfortunately, it doesn't see sarge's computer and all his work info is on HIS computer...dealer inventory, etc.

So sarge says if anyone has some free time, fly over, fix the computers and he'll buy you a case of beer! ;-)

Oh, he said he's had it and won't mess with them until the shop calls back. Yes, I could call the network-administor son, but geez, I know he gets sick of the "fix my computer calls."

Any ideas?????

Uninstall any software firewalls.

Shut down/unplug every thing.

In this order:
Boot computers.
Turn on cable modem (wait for all the lights).
Turn on/plug in router.

See if it works.

Call son.

LOL! All but the last step has been done. I did send him a "chatty" email and just barely mentioned the computer problems. We'll see. ;-)

oddly enough, storm passed through couple hours ago. Power blinked, and when I rebooted...BINGO!

As the little girl said in Poltergeist...
