0 Subject: Sevice Pack 2 - Problems? Concerns?

Anybody loaded this one up yet? I've been a bit nervous given the bumpy rollout of SP1. It's supposed to have some generic software for ads and spyware tacked on too.

At 245MB that's alot for a dial-up user to handle!

Actually, I just installed it yesterday. So far, I haven't noticed any degradation of performance. It does automatically turn on the Windows firewall, which seemed to be interfering with some processes (even after supposedly unblocking those processes), so I simply turned that firewall off. I already have other firewalls anyway.

It took a long time to install (better part of an hour, I'd guess), as it does a lot of backing up of pre-installation files, and also creates a restore point.

Took me a long time to load as well. Other than some problems with it shutting off some things, and continuing to give me warnings based on my own settings, it seems to be OK.

SP-2 arrived just about the same time as my $51.79 payment from the Microsoft Settlement Administrator. Hmmmm.

Done

I think lots of apps are failing to operate normally for me now, for one ipsec, and I had to be hard wired to my wi-fi box to change settings (luckily it's a one time thing). I think M$'s version of a "normal user" is anything but.

CNN.com ran this story about the SP2.

Microsoft says "some spyware could cause computers to freeze up upon installation of the update."

I installed it on both my laptop and home PC a few days ago and everything works fine. I had to reconfigure my firewall to allow IE to access the net, but otherwise everything is A-OK with no performance hits.

From the dude I bow too, computer wise anyway, Real-Life Experiences With XP's SP2.

He has been recommending waiting and letting bugs be worked out, FWIW. I have it installed on 1 of my 3 computers, and it tweaked some of my web settings, which I had to fix.

had some trouble with AIM getting disconnected after about 5 hours. Same thing on two computers. Uninstalled SP2 and it stopped disconnecting. Will hold out as long as possible.
