0 Subject: ATTN: Guru, area for final standings to be "filed"

Guru,

Since the site is many years old and hopefully will continue for many more years....

Idea: Create a forum to file FINAL standings for each sport that are kept throughtout the years. For example, post after post after post keeps piling up in the standings forums day by day until last years FINAL standings falls off page 12 (or whatever it is). The idea would be to use the existing forums for standings as is, but when the season is over, J, or Allhair Allstars, or Philflyboy or Dr Doom or whoever can prepare a FINAL season total standings w/ all YTD data. When FINAL standings are done, the preparer could post them there for permanent viewing, Maybe you could create a password required for them to post to that particular forum or they could send you the data to post. It wouldn't be for others to post to.

I guess the basics of the idea is to provide a place for your regular customers to refer to about past performance year after year in one organized locale. I find it interesting to back and look at standings over the past 2-3 years and recall the battles down the stretch between old and new Gurupies.

I don't know if anything ever came of this, but I like the idea.

Was perusing the HOF the other day an noticed that most of the links to old standings threads were dead. Are they gone? That might throw a wrench in the above plans...

I'll have to look into it.

Allhair - it's never too late to start keeping them. Sure, it sucks, but it could be quite nice after a year or so.

I think it's a great idea. I've been collecting some data on my own already, just for my personal interest (hoops only), but some past SW final rankings can't be found anywhere on the web. I used COpernic, Google,...but no past SW hoops standings can be found. I saved last year's top 100, and have stored some famous gurupies' results from the past 4 years.

I'm making it in Excel and have no clue how to post it on the forum, if anybody ever wanted to see what I got, they should just mail me.

This idea isn't dead, although there are some thorny logistical issues that I need to think through. It's also not the top item on my "to do" list, nor will it be for awhile.

Old standings continue to appear at each of the standings forums. Go to the last page and work your way up. That's the best way to find old standings. Of course, since this forum is only about two years old, the history is somewhat limited.

Just kicking this back up to the top but with an added idea:

There are several derivative games to TSN such as $500K, OTO, LRV and Tag Team that are becoming popular. I know Golf has several different version as well. In addition there are games such as "Best Bets", "Madball", & "Pick 'ems"

Each season questions come up about the "rules" for these games. Often times the rules have been spelled out in previous posts (usually the sign up thread) that are long gone (deleted). It would be handy to have a location to post the "rules" for future reference. Perhaps this board (Derivative Game Rules) could be password protected to prevent everyone and their brother from posting junk to it? Or the moderators could post worthy game rules to it when a game becomes popular.

This will save the time of re-typing $500K (for exapmle) rules or referring people to posts that no loner exixst. Thoughts? If it's too much hassle or not worthwhile, that's OK, but thanks for the consideration.

Lemme think about this.

BTW, I've pretty much dismissed the idea of archiving final standings in a central location. The biggest problem is that the subject generally doesn't identify the sport, and so I'd need to go through each one manually and change the subject line to something more descriptive. Otherwise, you could not distinguish between baseball, football, etc.

This could be solved if there was a real need. But I don't see why final standings for each game can't just be left in its original forum. I try to make sure that, when available, I leave a monthly version of standings around for posterity. And if something gets deleted inadvertantly (or maliciously), I can generally recover it.
