It was suggested by KrazyKoalaBear that I post this here,. It originally posted in the Hockey Forum "OT:Netscrape Test" thread:
Worked fine for me (Netscape 6) although sometimes I can't post while on Netscape. I get:
Not Found The requested URL /cgi-bin/mb/hock/message.pl was not found on this server.
So I have to jump to Explorer |

Guru, I thought I would add a minor problem I have here as well. I use Mac OS8.5 and IE5.0. When I try to add a link with or without the feature which adds links it gets "chopped" up and doesn't work. It works with NS4.7.
Also when I post, the width of the lines get truncated to the width you see here if I use IE but not NS. However, if I choose to ignore line feeds I get wider lines but naturally no paragraphs. I can't use NS all the time since it doesn't work with TSN, but that's not your problem. No big deal but I thought you might have some ideas.

The initial issue sounds like a bug in Netscape 6. It should be appending the string /cgi-bin/mb/hock/message.pl to the domain that your are using. Since this is all working fine in other versions of Netscape, as well as in MSIE, I can't imagine that the forum software is the problem.
Unfortunately, I don't have Netscape 6 to be able to test this, and from what I hear, there is no reason for me to want to move to Netscape 6.
As to the second issue, it sounds like your combination of OS & browser treats each line of the text area as though it ends with a line feed. Again, this seems like a bug in your browser. Probably, you're better off to just go with the narrow width. The alternative for you is to ignore line feeds, and then insert html code to create paragraphs or line breaks. If you know some basic html, that is pretty easy to do; if you need some tips, there are some older html tutorial threads in some of the forums. You can probably find them using the filter, searching for html in the subject.

Thanks for the response Guru. The width is no big deal but it would be nice to be able to insert a link when needed.

I am having the same problem that Flyboyz is having in the hockey forum. I get his error when responding.
Not Found The requested URL /cgi-bin/mb/dev/message.pl was not found on this server.
I am using Netscape 6.1 with WIN2K OS. I switched to 6.1 because .477 always crashes on me. 6.1 is more stable, but not compatible with a few pages.

Tim G - you should be able to add a link when using the "ignore line feed" option. If the browser is supplying a line break in the middle of the link, you'll just have to figure out where it is and manually delete it during the review process. And if that doesn't work, then Netscape 6 is really a piece of crap.
Also, there may be a reasonable way to correct the "not found" problem, but I'll need more help in diagnosing the source of the problem.
First, is it happening when you try to start a thread, or only when replying?
And does it happen when you first hit "Post Now", or only after you've had a chance to review your post?
Also, does anyone know whether it is possible to install Netscape 6 without losing access to Netscape 4? Can they coexist? Or does the installation of Netscape 6 wipe out the ability to continue to use Netscape 4?

I installed Netscape 6 from CD, hated it, and wiped it off without any problems. I had a bit of problem if I opened both browser versions at the same time (duh!), but I'm back to Netscape 4.75.

In that case, I think I'll load Netscape 6 on my backup machine and see if I can debug the problems.
Stay tuned...

I just installed Netscape 6.2 on my laptop. I was able to diagnose the "not found" problem (it does appear to be a bug), and developed a workaround. However, the workaraound will only impact threads created from now on. Existing threads will continue to give you a problem.
Tim - because your problem seems to be specific to IE5.0 for the Mac, I can't really debug it. My parents have a Mac, and when I visit them over Christmas, perhaps I can try to replicate it there. But I think your best solution is as I outlined in [5] above.

Thanks very much Guru. target="_blank">Test
This is what I get if I don't ignore line feeds. I separated the link from the rest of the text with returns. The link works but the title is messed up. I tried deleting or adding line feeds with return but this is the best I can get.

However, if I just type and select to ignore line feeds, Test , then it works. I can manage with this, again thanks for your help.
