0 Subject: Forum Ad Banners

For the past 8-9 months, I have completely eliminated ad banners at the top of forum pages, exclusively replacing them with updated GuruPatron info.

During December, I'm going to insert a few banners from some of the advertisers with which I've had the most success during the past year. In most cases, these are commission-based (and not pay-per-click ads), so there is no need to click if you have no interest. (One banner is a pay-per-click, but in fairness to that advertiser, I won't single it out.) The RotoGuru ad links to the Sponsorship page, which highlights many more advertisers with which I have a relationship. Most of these advertisers also appear on the top of about 50% of all sartibles and player pages.

I've personally bought from All-Ink.com and Batteries.com, and recommend them if you need inkjet supplies or batteries (and who doesn't?).

In the past, I had a program in place that eliminated banner ads from the forum if you had clicked within the past 24 hours. Since I'm currently restricting ads to about 20% of forum page loads, and since these are generally not pay-per-click based, I have not reactivated that program. I don't think a 1-in-5 chance of getting a banner at the top is too intrusive.

I'll reevaluate this approach next month. I figure if there is ever a time for commission-based banners to work, it is for popular products during the holiday season. We'll see.

As always, thanks for your support.
