Having a little area that told who was online at the moment or surfing the boards. Can come in handy at times if your looking for a buddy. Or even having the ability to send Private messages?
Just some thoughts.

More generally, the possibility to log in under a gurupie name if you want to. That way, it would be possible to:
* see who's online (and log on) at the same time
* send those private messages you're talking about.
Personally, I hate these AIM-MSN-ICQ thingies, and I know that the two abilities I cited above just sound like what AIM does, but here, it would be only for the forum, and much less complicated. A lot of forums have this thing implemented, it shouldn't be too complicated. Of course, I'm not the one doing it :-)

I agree with you JCS.
I'm not a big fan of IM, and besides what would the boss think if I'm using AIM, when I should be working...
